The Anchorage Public Library has opened its Winter Reading Challenge for Grownups! Yes this is for YOU!

Often literacy grows when kids SEE that not only is reading fun, but it's also the "cool thing to do". Along with structured literacy from programs like ours, building reading skills can start by opening a book and applying what we have learned!

Time to head to the library! :)

Our Occupational therapist Gayle shared with this amazing craft the OT kids in Anchorage completed: 16 empty TP rolls, folded then cut, and followed by a next step of hot glueing them all together and forming a circle! Finally the kids got to complete their work with glue and glitter application.

Skills Involved in this decor project included cutting, grasp strength, fine motor coordination and dexterity, eye-hand coordination, following multi-step directions, cognitive attention to task, and so many more!

One family sent in a photo that they put their star on top of their Christmas tree! How beautiful!

Too many dyslexic children have to work extra hard, showing grit , resiliency and self-advocacy skills to survive school systems which do not have high quality literacy and numeracy instruction.

Imagine a future where every student with learning differences can attend schools with educators who are trained to understand, value, support, nurture and fully educate them.

Too many educators do not know how to teach literacy and numeracy, let alone dyslexic students.

The burden on the dyslexic students is very intense to help support the educators who have not done their own studying to stay up-to-date about learning differences.
