🎉🥈Congratulations to Alaska's Gus Schumacher for taking home the sliver medal in the cross-country men’s team sprint!

His mother, Amy, has served the Alaska Tribal Health System for more than 20 years as a pediatrician with our partners Southcentral Foundation.

We’re hitting the targets on the Emergency Services Expansion Project! 🎯🦺🏥

On Friday, we held a ceremony to sign one of the final beams of steel in the expansion’s superstructure. 🏗️

This project represents the largest monetary investment in the hospital in its history! It is a testament to Alaska’s Tribes and your advocacy and determination to achieve a future where Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world! 🌎 💪

Thank you to our construction crew, architects, frontline workers, and of course, our patients, without whom none of this would be possible, and for whom this is all for. Thank you to Southcentral Foundation for helping us commemorate this important milestone (and for contributing a few of these photos)!

We’re excited to continue to share updates! 🛠️

❤️Happy American Heart Month❤️

February has been designated as a month to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease — the leading cause of death in the U.S.

The good news? Small changes, like reducing stress, can make a big difference in your heart health!

Chronic stress is linked to behaviors that raise the risk for heart disease and stroke, and has even been associated with increased cardiovascular events — so it’s important to find healthy ways to relax.

One great way is to take a walk: you get your exercise in, you get your relaxation in, and if you go after a meal, it can help control your blood sugar levels!

But even something as simple as deep breathing, or spending more time with friends or family that make you laugh, can ease stress levels and make a heart healthy difference!

We’re thrilled to share that ANTHC’s Dr. Kavya Kelagere-Mayigegowda has been named to the class of 2026 for the Top Forty Under 40! 🏆

Designed to recognize Alaskans who are committed to the betterment of their community, demonstrate excellence in their field, and have been instrumental in shaping the future of the state, the award honors Dr. Kelagere-Mayigegowda as a vital resource to the Alaska Native community, and Alaska in general.

Through her work as a gastroenterologist at the Alaska Native Medical Center, Dr. Kelagere-Mayigegowda has helped diagnose and get treatment for colon cancer patients faster — crucial actions that are improving outcomes for our Alaska Native people, who have some of the highest colon cancer rates in the world. 🩺

We are so grateful to have Dr. Kavya Kelagere-Mayigegowda on our team! Join us in extending our congratulations! 👏👏👏

🎉✨💪Happy Elizabeth Peratrovich Day!

Join us in honoring the life and legacy of the Alaska civil rights leader Elizabeth “Ḵaax̱gal.aat” Peratrovich! A Raven of the Tlingit Lukaax.ádi clan from Petersburg, Elizabeth’s years of campaigning, community organizing, lobbying, and penning of legislation were instrumental in the passage of Alaska’s Anti-Discrimination Act on February 16, 1945.

This law ended legal discrimination against Alaska Native people in the state nearly 20 years before the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 did the same nationwide!

At ANTHC, we proudly build on Elizabeth Peratrovich’s legacy by eliminating health disparities, elevating Indigenous culture and knowledge, and ensuring we are always advancing our vision that Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world!
