Congratulations to Rushyll Pacoy, a Certified Medical Assistant in our Allergy Clinic, on her BEE (Being Excellent Everyday) Award! 🐝

Developed to recognize healthcare individuals who go above and beyond in the care that they provide, the BEE Award is presented to two individuals each quarter.

Here’s what a patient wrote about Rushyll in their nomination:

“Rushyll had the job of administering several allergy tests with needles and later withdrawing 13 vials of blood. Neither of these procedures was pleasant; however, her attentive listening skills, coupled with genuine interest, made this experience much more tolerable. In addition, she provided a pillow and asked, ‘Wanda, how are you doing?’ Being called by my name and caring about my well-being were kind. I appreciate how she demonstrated her value for me by showing me these caring expressions.”

The BEE Award is part of the DAISY Award Program, which was developed to recognize extraordinary nurses.

Patients, their families, and fellow staff can nominate healthcare providers for either the BEE or DAISY Awards.

🗣️Talking with a doctor or nurse can sometimes feel intimidating. But remember, you know your body best!

Here are some tips for talking with your provider:
-Describe what you feel; where and when it started.
-Include small changes too! Such as changes in tiredness, sleep, random muscle cramps, mood, etc.
-If something your provider says isn’t clear, ask them to explain or write it down.

It’s Spring 🌷 AND breakup season 🫠 — a time when the melting snow can bring danger to many regions of Alaska.💧Snowmelts can overwhelm rivers, streams, and drainage systems, leading to rapid rises in water levels.

By taking proactive measures and preparing ahead of time, we can minimize the risks and protect ourselves, our families, and our communities from the impact of snowmelt floods. 🌊

Now is a good time to start preparing for possible floods during the breakup season. Here are some tips:

-Review your Small Community Emergency Response Plan (SCERP).
-Ensure community members identified on your SCERP’s Incident Command System Organization Chart understand their roles and responsibilities.
-Make plans together as a community.
-Take inventories of at-risk equipment, such as generators and snowmachines.
-Secure fuel tanks to prevent them from floating away.
-Ensure emergency kits and gear are available.
