🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Alaska AHEC! 🧡

Today, we pause with gratitude for the incredible people and partners who make our mission possible.
Across Alaska — from our rural communities to our largest hubs — students, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders work every day to strengthen and sustain our state’s health workforce.

This Thanksgiving, we want to say thank you to:

🧠 Students and learners exploring pathways into health careers.
🩺 Healthcare professionals serving Alaska with skill, compassion, and resilience.
🏫 Educators, mentors, and preceptors who guide and inspire the next generation.
🤝 Community partners and organizations who help us expand opportunities across the state.
🚁 Our six AHEC regional centers and their dedicated teams, working year-round to recruit, train, and retain Alaska’s health workforce.

Your commitment ensures that even the most rural and remote communities have access to care — today and for years to come.

From all of us at Alaska AHEC, we wish you a warm and restful Thanksgiving.
Thank you for being part of this work, for believing in Alaska’s future, and for helping us build a healthier tomorrow.

🧡 Happy Thanksgiving, Alaska! 🍂

Happy National Rural Health Day!

Today we celebrate Alaska’s rural communities and the dedicated health professionals who ensure access to care across some of the most remote and geographically challenging regions in the country.

At the Alaska Center for Rural Health & Health Workforce, we are honored to support the people who make rural health possible—providers, students, community partners, Elders, cultural leaders, emergency responders, behavioral health teams, and the many rural organizations working to strengthen local well-being.

From delivering clinical rotations, to building youth pathways into health careers, to supporting continuing education and workforce research, our mission remains rooted in one idea: healthy communities depend on a supported, connected, and resilient rural health workforce.

Thank you to everyone serving Alaska’s rural and underserved communities. Your commitment keeps our state strong.

UAA College of Health

Did you know that nearly 45% of students at UAA have experienced food insecurity?

That’s why the Seawolf Food Pantry was established by faculty in the College of Health’s Dietetics and Nutrition program. Since its founding, the pantry has been proudly staffed by COH faculty and students, who continue to ensure that every Seawolf has access to free food, hygiene items, and household goods. 💚💛

This resource thrives thanks to the generosity of faculty, staff, and students across UAA, and it stands as a powerful example of how the College of Health is working to reduce stigma, support student success, and strengthen our community.

📍 Visit the pantry in PSB Room 211 or spread the word!

Join us in highlighting the journey and contributions of our very own AHEC Scholars Alumni and champion, Nyabony G*t. Nyabony was recently featured in a UAA article honoring her hard work and dedication to improving the lives of Alaskans through her work at the Alaska Literacy Program. We are SO proud of you Nyabony!

According to the National Literacy Institute, 54% of adults in the United States read below a sixth-grade level. Helping to bridge that gap in Alaska is health sciences alumna Nyabony G*t, director of the Peer Leader Navigators program at the Alaska Literacy Program.
