🚨Important Announcement Regarding the 2025 Summit🚨

We are excited to share that the board has made a significant decision for the 2025 Summit! The event will now take place in the month of September. Specific dates are still to be determined and will be announced once we have finalized the schedule.

In addition, the board has decided to hold the summit every 18 months instead of every 12 months. This change will allow us more time to plan and secure the necessary funding to make the summit a truly impactful experience.

🌟 Real Inspiration: It’s Not Always What You Think 🌟

Ever been told you’re inspiring just for doing something simple, like running errands? Maggie, who uses a wheelchair and has a colorful personality, gets this a lot. But for her, these compliments can sometimes feel more like a reflection of others' discomfort than genuine praise.

In a recent video, Maggie explains that when people call her inspiring for just living her life, it often seems like they’re saying, “I’m glad that’s not my life.” She prefers to use these moments to explain why it’s important to see beyond appearances and understand that real inspiration comes from everyday actions, not just the extraordinary ones.

We are blessed to have Maggie as our board president and a strong advocate for disability rights.

Another successful summit has concluded! This year, we were thrilled to welcome 100 attendees from various parts of Alaska who gathered to learn about civil rights for individuals with disabilities. The conference brought together a diverse group including individuals with disabilities, supporters, and representatives from different organizations. Our agenda, crafted by Peer Power, was filled with insightful sessions covering topics such as Autonomy & Ableism, Participant-Directed Services, Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities, Friendship and Dating, and much more. Attendees left inspired and eager to make a positive impact in their communities.

It was an absolute privilege to have Tim McCue as our Keynote Speaker. Tim, a Self Advocate Educator for the Developmental Disabilities Ombuds in Washington State, is a passionate advocate with developmental disabilities himself. Through his inspiring journey, he shared valuable insights on empowerment and achieving goals despite challenges.
