AMM thanks all of our shipping, supply, and volunteer partners who made this shipment possible! Together we made an impact.

It was early in the morning on a cold February day, when I heard a knock on the warehouse door. “Hello?”
“Hi, I saw you had a container on your site,” a team member of TOTE Maritime replied. This interaction lead to a discussion of shared experiences regarding medical missions and logistics. As a small non-profit, global shipping requires creative problem-solving. Potentially TOTE could backhaul equipment to Tacoma, Washington as a donation. Exchanging contacts, it was about 4-months later when I received a call from DAWN, Inc.

DAWN had been researching medical non-profits when they discovered AMM. On the call, DAWN inquired about advanced medical supplies that could be sent to Ukraine. The Ukrainian healthcare system is very similar to the United States’ system. This presented a solution to a situation we were having - where to send some of the advanced supplies and equipment we received. Remembering the conversation I had 4-months earlier, I reached out to TOTE again, and they patiently helped me complete the technical aspects of the service donation application. With the backhaul shipment generously donated by TOTE, we could begin preparing. That summer many volunteers, two interns, and myself sorted, inventoried, and packed the specialized equipment donated from Providence Alaska for the outgoing shipment.

Going through the shipping process for the first time, I discovered there are quite a few steps to move Item A to Destination Z. Getting the supplies from our warehouse to the Port of Anchorage would require help. Working with Weaver Brothers, they generously donated transport from our warehouse to the port. On October 7th, 2025, the container & 1,774-lbs of advanced medical supplies/equipment left the AMM warehouse!

On the other end of the route, RXO & Life Express donated services to dray, transport, and transload the equipment into another container. That container would then be hauled across the United States to be combined with another store of supplies before being shipped across the Atlantic. Quite the journey!

Having a solid vision is indispensable to having an impactful mission. I like to think of vision being composed of four elements:

Absolute Vision ➡️ Creative Vision ➡️ Decisive Vision ➡️ Foundational Vision

You need all four parts to build something great!

When working in global health, geopolitics is deeply intertwined. Often, geopolitical situations directly impact health outcomes. AMM is always focused on seeing the individual as made in the image of God - no matter the geopolitical situation. In today’s Intersection post, we are looking at the country of Burma.

A lot goes into a name. The name Burma (Myanmar) emerged from a very long, colonial history. Burma was the name used by the British for the country. In 1989, the government controlled by the military switched the name to Myanmar to make a distinction between colonial rule and national identity. However, many of the ethnic groups across the country continued to use the name Burma to show opposition against the military. Burma is the name used by the US State Department.

Burma is composed of 135 different ethnic groups. After a military coup in 1962, the situation has been contentious with ongoing power struggles. Most recently in 2021, civil war erupted between the military and various ethnic groups as the military took control again.

Throughout this time, the military government has been accused genocidal actions against the mainly Muslim, Rohingya people as well as committed egregious human rights violations against many other ethics groups including the Karen people.

AMM has sent medical supplies to the Free Burma Rangers who focus on meeting violence with Christ’s love. Their mission is to help people escape violence, provide medical care, record/publish the atrocities, and train the Burmese people on how to do the same.

Additionally, because of regional instability, when natural disasters strike, like the earthquake earlier this year, medical care is delayed. AMM was able to assist with supplies in response to the Burma earthquake.

The situation in Burma is incredibly complex. For further information, read the articles below that contributed to this post.

One of the very first principles when building for impact is…. Just Start! A moving vehicle is much easier to steer than a stationary vehicle. We learn along the way. Join That Builders Lab on Skool.com to be part of a community building for impact together.

Tuberculosis is the world’s deadliest, infectious disease and over a third of the global population is a carrier for the bacteria. However, screening and testing resources are scarce in many parts of the world. However, that may be changing. In an article published by NPR, Grabrielle Emmanuel details how X-Ray machines and AI algorithms are screening for TB within nomadic communities in Nigeria to refugee camps in Chad. With no medical specialists to interpret the X-Ray data, AI algorithms are helping fill the gap providing early warnings of infection. While continued refinement is warranted, this is a stark example of innovative ideas, technology, and impact building making a difference in our world. Follow for more content like this every week.
