5 reasons your acne isn't clearing (and it's not what you think) 🤔

1️⃣ Your ""clean"" products aren't acne-safe
Natural doesn't mean non-comedogenic. Coconut oil, shea butter, algae - all common in organic products, all pore-clogging.

2️⃣ You're only checking your skincare
Your makeup, shampoo, conditioner, even your partner's products touching your face - they all need to be acne-safe too.

3️⃣ You're not using a strategic schedule
Using the same products every day lets acne adapt. You need planned adjustments every 2 weeks to stay ahead of it.

4️⃣ You're missing your personal triggers
Dairy in your latte, B12 in your vitamins, fabric softener on your pillowcase - one trigger can undo everything.

5️⃣ You don't have a proven system
Most people are guessing with their routine. Clear skin requires a strategic approach that addresses all these issues.

Acne isn't clearing because you're missing at least one of these pieces. When you address all of them, your skin will respond.

Never shop at Sephora for your acne products. 🫣

I know that sounds extreme, trust me on this. Here's why:
Sephora focuses on trendy, expensive products that look good on shelves. They're not formulated by people who understand what actually causes acne.

Most of their ""acne"" products contain pore-clogging ingredients disguised as luxury skincare.

You'll pay $60 for a cleanser that contains coconut oil, or sodium laurel sulfate, and is actually making your breakouts worse.
The ""beauty advisors"" are trained to sell products, not treat acne. They'll recommend whatever has the best margins or newest packaging.

Plus, acne doesn't need 10 different products. It needs the RIGHT 2-3 products that actually work.

You don't need fancy packaging or celebrity endorsements - your skin will be worse off. You need ingredients that prevent pimples from forming in the first place.

Do you always turn to Sephora for your acne products? It might be time to rethink that.

I know that's hard to believe when you've been breaking out for a long time.

But acne isn't random. It follows a predictable process.

When you know what's actually causing your breakouts and use the right products to stop it, your skin will clear up.

Most people just don't know what's really causing their acne. They blame hormones or diet when 90% of the time, it's their products.

Once you eliminate the real cause, usually around 12 weeks is all it takes for clear skin.

10/25/2025

Blaming your hormones for your acne will only keep you stuck.🙅

Most of the time, acne isn't caused by hormones. It's caused by something else entirely.

If you don't have true hormonal acne (bad birth control, pregnancy, PCOS, or peri-menopause), your breakouts are more likely coming from:
1️⃣ Pore-clogging skincare, makeup, or hair products
2️⃣ Diet triggers like energy drinks, peanut butter, or protein shakes
3️⃣ Certain vitamins and supplements

You'll spend months trying to balance your hormones, when the real problem is sitting on your bathroom counter.

Once you clean up those things + use the right products, that ""hormonal acne"" suddenly disappears.

Before you blame your hormones, make sure to rule out the bigger acne triggers first. Like a lot of my clients, you might be surprised that it was never your hormones to begin with.

Most acne ISN'T hormonal, but what if yours IS?

About 6-8% of women have polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS), and if you're one of them, your acne is different.
With PCOS, your body produces high levels of androgens - hormones that trigger excess oil and create deep, persistent breakouts that regular treatments don't work for.

But there's great news: a little-known supplement called myo-inositol.

It's one of the most effective things for PCOS-related acne. Published studies show it helps balance hormones and can even reverse PCOS symptoms.

What it does:
1️⃣ Balances insulin levels
2️⃣ Regulates cycles
3️⃣ Lowers androgen levels

It's natural, well-studied, and safe. Many women with PCOS see huge improvements in their hormonal acne.

If you have PCOS, this supplement could help get your acne under control long-term.

I highly recommend looking into myo-inositol if you have PCOS, or any other female hormonal issues (PMS symptoms, peri-menopause, menstrual issues).

You might be using acne products, but that doesn't mean you'll get results - especially if something is working against you.

This client's ""before"" pictures were after working with another acne specialist for 6 months and using hundreds of dollars of skin products. Her acne got worse and worse.

What was she doing wrong?
❌ Daily whey protein shakes
❌ Supplements with iodine and vitamin B12

These ingredients are HUGE acne triggers when taken regularly. No product, no matter how strong, can clear your skin when something is causing major breakouts every day.

She replaced the protein shakes and supplements with acne-safe alternatives, and used the right topical products.

Three months later, her skin was completely clear.

You don't have to change your whole diet, but you do need to know the few ingredients you need to avoid. Switching these out make ALL the difference.

A big secret in the skincare industry?

Even when acne products contain active ingredients, they're usually cancelled out by everything else in the formula.Or they're diluted, so they just sit there, doing nothing.

A product might have salicylic acid (sounds great!) but it's also loaded with other ingredients that actually clog pores.I could list many, many ""acne"" products that cause acne, including some prescription ones.

Active ingredients will only work if there aren't other things working against them.

The most common clogging ingredients I see in acne products: (check yours!)
1️⃣ Sodium Laurel Sulfate
2️⃣ Isopropyl Myristate
3️⃣ Isopropyl Palmitate
4️⃣ Avocado Oil
5️⃣ Laureth-7

A new client has a PhD in neurosciene, researches acne constatnly, and tried all of this for her acne:

Spironolactone, birth control, tretinoin, clindamycin, differin, removing dairy, removing processed foods, removing caffeine, changing pillowcases every 2 nights, silk pillowcases, fluoride-free toothpaste, and hundreds of dollars on skincare products.

None of it worked.

She's incredibly smart, diligent and did all the right things. But she was overlooking the one thing that mattered most:

Her products were causing her acne.

Every single ""acne product' she was using had pore-clogging ingredients in it. She was trying so hard to treat her acne, but was causing it instead.

You don't need a PhD to clear your skin - but you do need to know what actually causes acne so the things you try make a difference.

Have you spent time or money on any of these....what happened? Let me know in the comments 👇

1️⃣ Changing your diet won't fix your skin - 90% of acne comes from products, not food. This will be a huge waste of your time.

2️⃣ Natural doesn't mean safe - organic products have lots of natural ingredients that clog pores. I check every ingredient list for a reason.

3️⃣ Scrubs don't clean your pores -they can actually spread inflammation and make acne worse.

4️⃣ Coffee is better for your skin than energy drinks . Energy drinks are loaded with acne-triggering vitamin B12.

5️⃣ Hair products cause more breakouts than chocolate ever has - especially on your forehead, jawline, back, neck and shoulders.

6️⃣ You can completely clear your skin without Accutane or birth control - once you know the few things actually causing your breakouts.

If you've been told acne is all about hormones or diet, you're missing the bigger causes hiding right on your bathroom counter.

Your skin doesn't need to be pampered. It needs to be treated.

Acne is a medical condition. And like any condition, it needs the right treatment to get better.

This happens a lot—people are so afraid of irritating their skin that they use products without active ingredients. But nothing changes.

Your acne-prone skin can handle more than you think. It actually NEEDS stronger ingredients to break through the buildup that's causing your breakouts.

The secret is to ALSO use hydrating and nourishing products to make sure your lipid barrier stays balanced and healthy. This way, your active products can work quickly, without dryness or irritation.

When you treat your acne like the condition it is—instead of tiptoeing around it—that's when real resutls can finally happen.

10/18/2025

You might not want to hear this, but you need to:

Acne has to be treated with strong products. Really strong products. You're probably hesitiant because you think ""strong"" will damage your skin barrier.

And if you don't know what you're doing, it will.
But you can absolutely have healthy, hydrated skin WHILE using strong, acne-fighting products.

The secret is to:
1. Make sure all your NON-active products (cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen) are ultra-hydrating and non-clogging. LOAD up on the moisture! Then your skin can actually handle the strong products neEDED to fight acne.

2. Start active products on low and gradually increase their strength.

If you don’t use strong products to get your acne under control, you won’t make progress. But once your skin is clear, you can back off of the strong stuff.

My client Andrea spent $400 on ""acne-safe"" products her dermatologist recommended and used them perfectly for months.

The result? Still covered in breakouts.

Here's the truth about acne products: ""acne-safe"" doesn't mean ""acne-fighting"".
Most acne products are just basic formulas with no acne-fighting power.

You're maintaining your acne, not treating it - there's a big difference.
Acne forms every day, and it needs strong products to stop it (+ a hydrated and balanced skin barrier).

Andrea switched to 2 ingredients I recommend to all my clients:
1️⃣ Mandelic acid to decongest her pores
2️⃣ Benzoyl peroxide to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria.

Three months later her skin was clear.
She went from maintaining her acne to actually healing it.
