Intern spotlight!
Dr. Syed Sami, MD
Hometown: Born and raised in the vibrant and diverse city of Karachi, Pakistan, I spent most of my early life immersed in its fast-paced, energetic culture. Three years ago, I traded the hustle for the sunny beaches of Tampa, Florida — and now, I’ve embraced a whole new adventure in the breathtaking mountains of Anchorage, Alaska.
Hobbies: I’m passionate about cricket, ping pong, and watching movies on the big screen. A nature lover at heart, I enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and soaking in the beauty of the outdoors — from beaches to mountain trails.
Why AKFMR: I chose the Alaska Family Medicine Residency because I’ve always had a deep passion for serving underserved and remote communities. I wanted to train in an environment that not only challenges me but also helps me learn, grow, and truly make a difference.
Since joining the program, I’ve been incredibly grateful to find exactly what I was looking for — and more. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside amazing co-residents, supportive seniors, a dedicated faculty, and a compassionate medical and support staff. The sense of community here is unmatched.
Coming to Anchorage and joining this residency has truly been one of the best decisions of my life.
