Celebrating 10 Years of Physical Therapy Excellence at OPA! 🎉

As we celebrate National Physical Therapy Month, we’re proud to recognize a decade of helping Alaskans move better, feel stronger, and live without limits.

This year marks 10 years of Physical Therapy at OPA — a milestone that reflects our team’s commitment to movement, recovery, and lifelong wellness.

This October, we’re joining the American Physical Therapy Association’s theme, “PT for Future Me,” highlighting how physical therapy empowers people of all ages to stay strong, mobile, and healthy throughout every stage of life.

With therapy available in Midtown, South Anchorage, University Lake, Eagle River, Wasilla, and Soldotna, our OPA team continues to help Alaskans build a future full of movement and possibility.

🌟 Provider Spotlight: Dr. Derrick Foge, MD
Dr. Derrick Foge is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon and decorated Special Forces veteran. Before joining OPA’s Spine Surgery team, he served as a Green Beret medic, completing multiple deployments and training others in life-saving surgical procedures.

Inspired by that experience, he pursued orthopedic surgery and completed his Spine Fellowship at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center.

Today, Dr. Foge treats a wide range of back, neck, and spine conditions, helping Alaskans return to the activities they love—whether that’s hiking, fishing, or just moving without pain.

Meet Dr. Jessie Janowski, a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, and elbow care — combining precision, compassion, and cutting-edge treatment options for patients across Alaska.

Dr. Janowski trained at the University of Vermont and completed her prestigious hand fellowship in New York City at the renowned C.V. Starr Hand Surgery Center. She also serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor for the WWAMI School of Medical Education, reflecting her commitment to advancing orthopedic education.

🎉 OPA x Oktoberfest 5K/10K Recap 🍂

After a long week of rainy skies, our team couldn’t wait to soak up the sunshine and support our incredible Alaskan community at the Skinny Raven Sports Oktoberfest 5K & 10K this weekend!

With perfect fall weather, big smiles, and nearly 1,000 participants, it was a day filled with cheers, laughs, and lederhosen 🍻🇩🇪 We loved seeing everyone out there living without limits, moving together, and celebrating everything that makes this season—and our community—so special.

👏 A big shoutout to Skinny Raven and everyone who helped raise over $3,400 for Covenant House Alaska. That’s community impact worth celebrating!

🍁 We’ll be trading in our beer steins for broomsticks soon… so grab your best costume and your spooky spirit, because we’ll see you at the Frightening 4K on October 25th. 🧛‍♂️🕷️🕸️

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Rucker Staggers, Orthopedic Surgeon, to OPA Wasilla!

Dr. Staggers is fellowship-trained in orthopedic sports medicine from the Mammoth Orthopedic Institute in California, where he cared for athletes at every level—including members of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team.

His expertise spans advanced surgical and nonsurgical care for sports injuries, fracture care, joint replacement, and complex orthopedic conditions. With more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, his research has contributed to advancements in ACL reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and treatment of sports injuries.

Outside of medicine, you’ll find him mountain biking, snowboarding, fishing, hunting, or turning wrenches on his 1995 Jeep Wrangler.

Labor Day is right around the corner—here’s what to expect:

All Orthopedic Physicians Alaska clinics will be closed this Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day, and will reopen on Tuesday with normal business hours.

We’re taking this time to recognize the incredible efforts of our Surgeons, Physicians, Athletic Trainers, Techs, Schedulers, and the full OPA family who work hard every day to help Alaskans live without limits. 💪
