To the birth community of Anchorage and Alaska at large, I adore you. It has been an absolute blessing to serve in this community as a midwife.
My family and I have decided to take a year sabbatical to spend meaningful time with our children, our family/friends in the lower 48 and travel the globe. We plan to reflect, learn, grow and ultimately resettle in a warmer place.
This has been an incredible place to practice midwifery! Alaska’s supportive laws allow us to practice with autonomy - creating space for the model of care that focuses on relationship, physiologic birth, and true client-centered decision-making. There are fantastic options for home, birth center and hospital births here with a spectrum of providers, allowing each family to find the right fit for them.
I am thankful for the powerful nurses/birth assistants that have cared for women alongside me at both the hospital and birth center and the supportive doctors that have collaborated with me.
I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the sisterhood of midwives at MWHC, for the work they put in daily to keep birth safe and sacred. It is priceless to share the same philosophy of care with your teammates.
And finally, to the families that allowed me to attend your births: it has been an honor. I will be carrying your stories with me, stories of endurance, sprints, marathons, bravery, peace, power, and surrender. Thank you for allowing me to watch 288 sweet Alaskan babes come into this world!
Thank you for trusting me, for sharing your stories with me…I will carry them with me. They will be cherished, shared and will benefit women wherever I go.

If you are free, I would love to give you a hug and see your growing children at our “see ya later” gathering on Monday, August 11th at Chugach Foothills Park (7975 Pioneer Dr.) from 6-9pm *picture with midwife families at 7pm.
With all my love and respect,
Midwife Kimberly
