Today is World Diabetes Day, a chance for us to educate our communities on diabetes and support those living with it.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that occurs when the body cannot use insulin properly to regulate blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body produces little to no insulin because the immune system attacks the cells that produce it. Type 2 diabetes, the most common type, occurs when the body produces insulin, but the cells do not respond well to it.

November is Native American Heritage Month, also called American Indian Heritage Month. This special awareness month celebrates the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Native Americans, Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians, and affiliated Island communities.

This month and every month, we celebrate the diversity of these cultures and pay tribute to their lasting footprint on American society.

Recently, our Scottsboro Hospice team recognized and pinned Mr. James, a 30-year Navy Veteran and the husband of one of our patients. It is a privilege to recognize the immense sacrifice of our service members, and we are honored to share our gratitude by providing care to them and those they love.
