✨ Therapy Tip Tuesday ✨

You do not have to do everything alone. 💚

Humans are wired for connection, and support plays an important role in our emotional and mental wellbeing. When we feel supported, our stress levels decrease, problems can feel more manageable, and we’re reminded that we don’t have to carry life’s challenges entirely on our own.

Support can look different for everyone — talking with a trusted friend, spending time with safe people, attending therapy, asking for help, leaning into your faith, or simply allowing someone to sit beside you during difficult moments.

Sometimes healing begins the moment we stop pretending we’re “fine” and allow ourselves to be supported. There is strength in reaching out, and there is comfort in knowing you were never meant to do life alone. 🤍

Our next Therapist Spotlight is Riley Ham, LPC ✨

Riley has been with Southern Counseling Group since 2021. She received her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Troy University.

Riley is passionate about helping clients of all ages and needs feel seen and heard. She believes therapy looks different for everyone and strives to provide an eclectic approach based on client need. She provides a compassionate, encouraging space for clients working through anxiety, OCD, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, and more. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a modality that allows clients to reprocess and reduce intensity of traumatic events through bilateral stimulation.

In addition to being EMDR trained, Riley works closely with local school systems and provides in-school services at Straughn Schools. She loves helping clients build confidence, healthy coping skills, and lasting positive change. 💚

✨ Therapy Tip Tuesday ✨

Did you know your body often recognizes stress before your mind catches up?
Headaches, tense shoulders, stomach aches, exhaustion, irritability, jaw clenching, and trouble sleeping can all be signs your nervous system is asking for care.

This week, try paying attention to your body’s cues instead of pushing through them. Awareness is the first step toward healing. 💚

Happy National Mental Health Provider Day to the incredible therapists who make a difference every single day! 💚

Today, our admin team had the honor of showing a little appreciation for the compassion, patience, dedication, and heart our providers pour into others daily. To celebrate them, we set up a coffee bar as a small way to say thank you for all they do for our clients, our community, and each other.

Mental health providers carry so much for so many people, and we never want their hard work to go unnoticed. We are beyond thankful for this amazing team and the lives they impact every day. ☕✨

Today is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day 💚

Children’s mental health matters just as much as their physical health. In fact, an estimated 1 in 5 youth experiences a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder each year. Yet many children still do not receive the support they need.

Mental health challenges can affect how children learn, build relationships, regulate emotions, and navigate everyday life. Anxiety and depression in children often show up differently than adults — sometimes through irritability, trouble sleeping, stomach aches, difficulty concentrating, withdrawal, or behavioral changes.

Early recognition and support can make a life-changing difference. When children feel safe, heard, and supported, they are more likely to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Here are a few ways we can support children’s mental health:
✨ Encourage open conversations about feelings
✨ Validate emotions instead of dismissing them
✨ Create consistent routines and safe environments
✨ Model healthy coping skills
✨ Ask for help when needed — there is strength in support

Let’s continue breaking the stigma and reminding children that it is okay to talk about mental health. Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued. 💚
