Let's talk about referrals and how pathetic other specialists' offices can be. Poor information, poor follow-up, poor communication with our our and the patient. It's sad. Don't put up with it. Welcome back, all you DPC rebels and resistance fighters. Dr Shane is back with another Friday 5-Minute Magic Tip, and today we talk about Superbills. What the heck is that you say? Those are the huge receipts or bills most offices give to patients that have all the ICD-10 and/or CPT codes for everything done in the office for the visit. Some patients with insurance try to submit these to the insurance company for refunds or credits to deductibles. However, in my experience, it frequently fails to work. And the problems come back on you, DPC doc. Let's chat about it.

Dr. Shane is back with another Friday 5-Minute Magic Tip and today we talk about 2 HUGE details DPC doctors MUST clarify before working with employers. How will referrals and pharmacy benefits work? Those two issues must be nailed down in advance of signing an agreement; The insurer advisor or broker MUST include you in on those mechanisms, or you are in deep waters. I'd say if you don't understand how those two things will work with an employer, it's a no-go. It won't be pretty.

They have zero desire to understand, and the vast majority are NOT practicing physicians but academics or administrators. You're too busy making medicine better. Keep going.
