Remembering a kind and caring Veterinarian we were honored to know and work with.
We're remembering alumnus Dr. Jeffrey Hanssen of Greenfield, Indiana, who died March 12, 2026, at Brandywine Brickyard Healthcare Center in Greenfield.
A native of Evansville, Dr. Hanssen underwent multiple surgeries as a child at Shriners Hospital in St. Louis to treat a birth defect in his hands. He later attended Indiana State University - Evansville, now the University of Southern Indiana, and earned his DVM degree from Purdue University in 1980
Dr. Hanssen went on to own and operate Westwood Veterinary Clinic for 40 years, caring for pets in Greenfield and their owners. Outside his veterinary work, he enjoyed hiking in state parks, birding, collecting rocks, and reading, and he had an extensive book collection.
He also gave back through the 4-H Vet Science Project and his active involvement with the Hancock County Humane Society. He is remembered as a social and outgoing person.
