Prior to 1962, physicians were not always able to admit patients or schedule surgeries as quickly as they wanted to with only one hospital in town. Due to the growing population and the ever-increasing need, a committee formed to coordinate raising funds for building another hospital. Pledges from over 17,000 individuals, along with significant gifts from many organizations resulted in a successful campaign of over 3.25 million dollars to build Community Hospital Anderson. When the hospital first opened, it was considered a state-of-the-art facility. Over fifty years later, we are still focused on bringing the latest medical advancements to Madison County. Many of our services allow patients to stay close to home for their health care needs. Just a few examples of our advancements include our da Vinci® robotic surgical system, Clinical Research Center, neurosurgery program and our Center for Advanced Wound Healing. Community Hospital Anderson was built with funds raised entirely by the generous organizations and individuals in this community. It remains the only locally owned and operated hospital in Madison County. Throughout this time, we have remained steadfast in our mission to provide high quality health care here in Anderson, for the community that built us.

Did you know that routinely checking your cholesterol levels helps you learn your risk of heart disease? Cholesterol is a type of lipid (fat) that helps you function, but having too much of it in your blood can cause issues. So, it’s important to visit your primary care physician and stay on top of your levels.

Here is how frequently you should be getting your cholesterol checked based on age ranges.

Something hopeful is growing at Community Farm. This season, we’ve launched two new garden clubs—Bloomers for adults and Seedlings for children— inviting neighbors of all ages to dig in, learn sustainable gardening skills and grow fresh produce together. 🥕 🥦 🍅

This is made possible through partnership with Bloom Madison County. The clubs meet every Wednesday. They work in garden beds growing and harvesting produce like spinach, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and more!

Madison County ranks among the top 15 counties in Indiana for food insecurity. By teaching people how to grow their own food and share the harvest, we’re addressing hunger at its roots—literally. You can see for yourself in the video. (The purple carrots were a big hit with the Seedlings group.😄)

Thanks to advances in medical care, many people with heart defects are living longer, healthier lives — but regular checkups are important to keep that heart healthy. Early detection, like newborn screenings, can make a big difference, especially for more serious heart defects.
If you have questions or want to learn more, don’t hesitate to talk to your primary care physician.
