Join us at Cultured Urban Winery on Friday, May 1st, for an unforgettable improv experience. We are so proud to feature Hopewell Center’s very own improv group, The Millennial Baboons!

These talented performers from our Day Services have been working hard to perfect their craft, and they are ready to take the stage.

When: Friday, May 1st | 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Cultured Urban Winery (Downtown Anderson)
Food: Philly cheesesteaks (steak, chicken, or veggie) available for purchase by Chef Chelsea!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day, and April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙

Today, this month, and every day, we learn, reflect, and celebrate the unique strengths and experiences of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Autism is not one-size-fits-all. It’s a spectrum, and every individual’s journey is different. By growing in understanding, we can build a more inclusive, supportive community for everyone.

Awareness is important… but acceptance and inclusion are what truly make a difference.

Inclusive workplaces build stronger communities.

Here are three ways to be a more inclusive employer:

1️⃣ Focus on ability, not assumptions.
Look at what a person can do. Inclusive hiring starts with evaluating skills and potential, not making decisions based on disability or perceived limitations.

2️⃣ Make simple workplace accommodations.
Many accommodations are low-cost (or no-cost). Flexible scheduling, clear written instructions, task modifications, or assistive tools can make all the difference.

3️⃣ Build a culture of belonging.
Inclusion doesn’t stop at hiring. Provide disability awareness training, encourage team support, and create an environment where every employee feels valued and respected.

When employers open doors with purpose, they go beyond just filling positions... they're changing lives. And that’s the kind of impact that lasts.

It’s Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, so we’re sharing some facts you may not know:

➡️ About 1 in 6 children in the United States are diagnosed with one or more developmental disabilities.

➡️ "Developmental Disability" is an umbrella term covering conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tourette Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy.

➡️ Developmental disabilities begin during the developmental period, most beginning before birth, and typically require varying levels of support.

Over our six-decade history, we have been privileged to support 9,873 individuals as they build their own unique versions of a meaningful life. 💙

We are wishing a very happy retirement to our President & CEO, Connie Kurtz!

Connie is retiring after nearly four decades of service to Hopewell Center, nine of those as CEO. Her deep empathy and dedication to individuals with disabilities have left an indelible mark on our organization and the Madison County community.

We hold immense gratitude for the legacy she leaves behind and wish her a retirement filled with as much joy as she has brought to Hopewell Center. 💙

Last week, we gathered to celebrate Connie and her retirement. It was a joy to reflect on the growth, milestones, and countless lives impacted during her time here.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the 40 years of service (nine of those as CEO) Connie dedicated to Hopewell Center. We are forever grateful for her heart and impact!

Special shoutout to Pop Party Co. Indy for providing the beautiful grazing board and helping make this an incredible send-off for an incredible lady!
