FIND THE CANCER —>
Zoom in, can you spot the BCC?
If you look closely you can see some signs of a BCC on the cheek, and then when we use the Dermatoscope it’s a very clear Early BCC.
Catching them early is what we pride ourselves on, if let to simmer these can be a process to be rid of. At this stage, a simple excision ensures the margins are clear and free.

FIND THE CANCER!
Another wonderful example of an early Basal Cell detection!
The lips and the surrounding are are high risk areas that we ALWAYS take a few extra seconds to scan with each new patient. This small BCC, if left to mature, could have been a mess to excise if it wasn’t caught early.
and early detection is the key to patient happiness and lower cost surgery’s.

// Can you spot and identify the cancer here? //
One of our PA’s found this early BCC on the nasal supratip of this patient.
It’s quite astonishing how early we can find cancers. When done line this, a slight shaving and buffing can take care of the situation.
What do you think?

Can you FIND THE CANCER in picture 2? —>
ANYONE can see the Basal Cell in picture 1, but not everyone will find the Basal Cell in picture 2. WHY IS THIS?
In picture 3, we see that these cancers have very similar characteristics. When we SYSTEMATICALLY SCREEN patients with a dermatoscope AND know what to look for, we can begin to find these cancers at their earliest stages (picture 2).
Which patient would you rather be?
SCANNING DERMOSCOPY is the practice of taking and extra 10-20 seconds to PURPOSELY SCAN the most likely places for skin cancer to occur. The GOAL is not to focus our Dermatoscope on something apparent, but to look expectantly for things that stand out in a given high risk field by looking for BACKGROUND VARIATIONS in any given area of FOCUS.
Ask questions, start conversation, we are passionate about this topic and want to find like minded people and people that want to learn! @ Skin Cancer Centres

// Radiation Therapy //
At the Skin Cancer Centre we offer a “Cure Without Cutting” option to our patients for a large amount of skin cancers. This is especially beneficial to patients that have cancers in areas where healing from an excision can be difficult or time exhaustive.
With no anesthesia, cutting, bleeding, stitching or pain, our partnership with was a no-brainer and our patients have loved this alternative treatment!

// Advance Your Technology //
We are always finding ways to improve the visualization of skin cancers. This is not only essential for the early detection of skin cancer as Dr. DeAngelis actually performs Mohs surgical excisions while working through an operating microscope. This is often used on delicate areas such as tissues surrounding the eyelids, lips, and nose.
The development of this “enhanced” excision method improves the accuracy of his excisions and allows for an EVEN GREATER DEGREE of tissue conservation during surgery.
Dr. DeAngelis has always performed the vast majority of his own reconstructions following the removal of skin cancers from all over the body.

ASHLYN PLATTS, PA-C
Ashlyn joined the staff of the Skin Cancer Centre in May of 2016. Ashlyn graduated from the University of South Carolina in Aiken in 2007, and then obtained her Master of Science in Medicine — Physician Assistant from the Medical College of GA in 2012.
She worked with another board-certified dermatologist in the state of Georgia full time prior to joining us at the Skin Cancer Centre. She came to us with a solid foundation from her experience working in general dermatol ogy and has an outstanding reputation where she practiced for three years in the state of Georgia.
Her move to our practice in the upstate allowed her to expand her practice in the early detection and advanced treatment of skin cancer. If she is not in the office, she is likely enjoying her time with her husband Daniel, or at Disney world, she likes it there a lot!

Do you Dermatoscope?
Hands down this is the most useful devise that we implement in our practice. Without it, ANY dermatologist is BLIND to the earliest cancers and pre-cancers! The second picture is one of what the naked eye can see, the third is a magnified picture under the Dermatoscope! That’s a huge difference!
By systematically screening the highest risk areas of patients, we have found and prevented large and costly surgeries time and time again.
There is NO reason to wait until you can see the cancer with your naked eye before it is excised. With proper training in Dermoscopy you can care for your patients with a higher level of care and efficacy than ever. If your dermatologist doesn’t use a device like this, START ASKING QUESTIONS!
