Join Embrace CEO Dave Dlesk on Thursday, September 8 at 1:00 PM Eastern for an hour-long webinar presented by Marcus Evans Online Events. This thought-provoking session will feature a panel of leading thinkers as they explore where population health is having a positive impact and how it should be augmented as we move forward.

Although population health has been instrumental in identifying at risk patients for triage, it has primarily been used for only the highest risk patients. The largest opportunity for cost reductions and improved outcomes exists with those patients who are at rising risk. Register for this informative session here https://bit.ly/3Tf2haq.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a $60M investment to grow the health workforce and increase access to quality care in rural communities.

These investments are focused on workforce training, developing new rural residency programs, and community-based organizations to improve health outcomes and rural veterans' health. Almost 20% of Americans live in rural areas but health disparities between rural and urban areas are growing, highlighting the need for this added funding.

Embrace advisor, Dr. Haider Warraich, led a study that was recently published in BMJ that explores the gap between mortality rates in Republican and Democratic counties which has increased sixfold over the last 20 years. While mortality rates have declined in both, the improvement was greater in Democratic counties, resulting in the Republican counties having a 16% higher mortality rate.

Scientific American published an article this week that discusses this study and others to explore this trend. The causes are varied and complex, ranging from public policy to individual choices. As Dr. Warraich states, “ …it doesn’t matter to me whether my patient is Republican or Democrat, I want the best outcome for both patients and both communities.” Embrace will need to dig into this topic to understand how this disparity affects preventive care for older adults.
