An asana practice should push you to find your edge so that you’re working hard enough that your mind doesn’t wander off…but not so hard you push beyond your limits and put excessive stress on the body.

It’s effortless effort that asks us to find the boundary between tapas — undergoing great sensation in service of transformation — and ahimsa — doing no harm.

Working hard enough so that you’re in that state of flow that allows us to be truly present looks different for everyone, and is different for our selves day by day.

This is where the physical practice meets the subtle practice that benefits our mental, spiritual and emotional health. ✨

Looking for something a little less sweaty and a little more restful?

Deb and Mel are bringing gentle yoga to HOME. Each will have their own spin on the class combining gentle movement with a side of yin, breath work, nidra and guided meditation.

It’ll be a great class on its own or as a compliment to your existing, more physically challenging, practice.

✨ Understand the how’s and why’s of the practice with our comprehensive in-person training.

✨ Get real-time feedback on your practice and teaching from other trainees and lead teachers.

✨ Discuss and exchange ideas on the ancient philosophy of Yoga.

✨ Dissect the anatomy of each pose and see first hand how a pose looks different (but is entirely “right”) for a tight body and a mobile body.

✨ Explore and ask questions about the sequencing principles that help to create a safe class.

Nothing replaces the value of an in-person training both in terms of education and the connections you’ll make with other yogis.

This month’s teacher spotlight is Ken Davis!

Tight hamstrings brought Ken to his first yoga class in the mid-1990s. Years of running and cycling had left him with typical muscle imbalances — yoga brought him back into balance. It also proved the perfect partner to his burgeoning meditation practice, and he hasn’t stopped exploring both the depths and benefits of the practice since.

After discovering HOME in 2017, his curiosity deepened. Inspired by the passion and precision he found in classes with Kristin, Sian, and Karen K., he took the leap into Kristin’s 200-hour teacher training in 2021. Upon finishing, he started teaching immediately and completed his 300-hour training at HOME last year.

Ken’s classes are fast-paced, light-hearted spaces where he hopes students can nurture their own sense of balance and curiosity with the practice.

Outside the studio, Ken still runs, rides, and hikes. He also writes, plays music, makes prints, and pursues whatever new obsession catches his fancy.

This month’s focus: Upper leg muscles! Ken will target the various muscle groups that help us stay balanced for running, cycling, hiking, and really any activity where we’re up and moving.

✨ If you’re a runner, cyclist, or hiker (or know one!), join Ken’s The Athlete’s Tune-Up: Yoga for Runners, Cyclists, and Hikers on July 19th from 1-3pm.

We’re launching a ✨brand new✨ monthly membership.

As part of the studio’s mission to find overall health and wellness, we’re offering the Wellness Membership with unlimited monthly access to all of our classes that primarily benefit our nervous system: Restorative, Yin, Nidra and a new class Gentle Yoga with guided meditation/savasana.

We’ve bulked up our schedule to make this membership worth it. Beginning July 8, you’ll see all these Wellness Classes on the schedule taught by experienced teachers.

Sunday 10:30 Yin with Melanie
Sunday 630pm Sunday Night Slowdown
Tuesday 7pm Restorative with Kristin
Wednesday 630pm Gentle Yoga with Deb
Thursday 530pm Restorative with Laurie
Friday 415pm Gentle Yoga with Mel

Yes! You are able to attend these classes with a regular monthly or a class card.

If you’re typically interested in only these types of classes the $130/month membership is the most affordable option. Attending just two of these classes a week with this membership is less expensive than both the 10-class and 20-class card.

Purchase now and it’ll activate on your first visit! 🧘🏻‍♂️

Growing up, I never even knew to dream my professional life would take me where it did—even when all the signs were pointing me in this direction since I was young. And here I am teaching yoga, leading trainings and retreats, and running my own business.

I’m so happy that Michelle and Dana invited me on a 20-min dive into the soul of work & the messy middle celebrating the scraps, screw-ups & detours—because nothing is wasted.

Listen to “A Life Worth Working” wherever you get your podcasts! Michelle and Dana are so easy to listen to and quite inspiring and thought provoking with their questions.

Our teacher of the month for June is Kayla!

✨ Kayla has been practicing yoga for 17 years and teaching for 13. When she found Home Yoga a few years ago, she fell in love with the alignment-based vinyasa style of yoga that Kristin teaches and completed Kristin’s 300-hour training in 2022. If you haven’t been to one of Kayla’s classes, you can expect a creative, challenging class taught in a laidback way. She emphasizes movement linked with breath to bring awareness to the present.

✨ When Kayla isn’t practicing or teaching yoga, you can usually find her spending time with her dog or seeing live music. (We’re hoping the music selected for this post doesn’t make her cringe 😂)

✨ Kayla teaches Thursdays at 7 pm and Saturdays at 10:45 am.

This month you can also catch her teaching a handstand workshop June 21st, 1-3 pm!

✨ Focus of the Month: Sutra 2.1 Kriya Yoga ✨

Kayla chose sutra 2.1 for the focus of the month because she loves the way that yoga brings us an opportunity for self study. When we practice hard things on our mat, we have an opportunity to notice our reaction and practice letting expectations of the outcome go.

Saturday morning fun! Half inversion, half backbend. It’s the centaur of yoga poses.

✨ And while it’s fun to play with these kinds of poses, the real benefit is that we can’t think about anything else that may be on our minds.

✨ Anyone who’s been to my classes over the years has heard me say a million times, the yoga is not the pose; it’s the ability to keep a steady mind in the pose or to notice our reaction or approach to it.

✨ We get the physical benefits built into these types of poses throughout the class. So the real value of more complicated poses is the thoughts that surround it.

✨ And, if nothing else, we get a little break from the useless and often harmful thoughts that are continuously looping through our minds.

✨ 99% practice, 1% theory.
