TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: MEET MEL!

Mel has been practicing yoga since her early 20s. When she first stepped into the HOME studio, it was love at first sight. She started with the two-week intro offer and immediately followed it with a 200-hour teacher training, then a 300-hour training — and she never left.

When Mel is not teaching or practicing yoga, you can find her walking with her dog, Fin, reading, or skiing in the winter months.

You can probably hear her British-Finnish accent (or her laugh) before you see her. Mel reminds her students to listen to their bodies, minds, and breath more than to her words. She often adds with a smile, “You can’t blame me if you’re sore tomorrow…or the day after.”

Mel teaches a Foundation class on Wednesdays from 8–9am and Fridays from 10:30–11:30am. You can also join her Gentle Yoga class on Fridays from 4:15–5:15pm, as well as selected Sunday Slowdown sessions.

On September 21st from 4–6pm, Mel is offering a special Unlocking the Twists workshop. You’ll explore different twists using plenty of props, then move into longer-held twists, with optional Reiki for those who’d like to receive it. Spots are limited to make sure everyone has room to play with twists.

Wellness is when the four pillars of health are in balance. It’s when our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health are all intertwined, which fosters our best self. If one of the four pillars is lacking, it infects the others and we feel sluggish, sad, unmotivated.

It’s just as important to slow down, notice the glimmers, breathe, make social connections, know your purpose in life and be out in nature as it is to eat the rainbow and move your body.

Our Group Health Coaching will help you identify where you can make small changes that will transform your health within a kind and supportive community.

Join us — whether you simply need to get back on track and stay motivated or are tired of trying to figure it all out on your own. 💚

How it started —> How it’s going….

H A P P Y 13th B I R T H D A Y to H OM E!

I set out to open a studio where everyone could feel at home — regardless of the poses they can or can’t do, their inclination toward the physical, mental or spiritual side of the practice didn’t matter, their age was not an issue. I wanted to create a yoga home for everyone and every body.

Over the last thirteen years, we’ve built a community and learning environment where everyone feels welcome. We’ve traveled together on yoga retreats and enriched ourselves through teacher trainings. Most important, we’ve shown up for each other every day through gas explosions, covid, leaking ceilings, power outages, Zoom failures and apocalyptic weather. I even learned how to use a snowblower to get HOME for my Sunday morning yoga friends.

Thank you to all the teachers over the years and all the regulars and pop-in students for making HOME a true home. I am always so grateful I get to call this work. And thank you to my three kids who have graciously tolerated all the games, concerts and events I missed for teaching.

Cheers to lucky 13 and to another decade!

✨ I remember the feeling of wanting to go to a studio to learn and practice with other yogis but not having the means to join a studio.

✨ A consistent yoga practice can help everything else fall into place. If you want to join our HOME and are 24 or younger this monthly membership is for you darling.

Teacher Spotlight: Meet Kristin!

✨ Kristin (E-RYT 500) has been practicing yoga since 1994. She’s been a certified yoga teacher since 2007 and has led teacher trainings since 2015. Sharing the “magic” of yoga is her passion. In addition to her weekly classes at HOME, which she opened in 2012, she runs 200-hour and 300-hour teacher trainings.

✨ She also leads domestic and international yoga retreats where participants practice daily yoga and meditation, connect with nature and explore the local culture.

✨ Kristin is a certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and has her Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate though T. Colin Campbell’s Cornell Course. Kristin’s approach to health is holistic, balancing physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

✨ Join her August 17 for a two hour hip opening class! Space is limited and filling up!

✨ When not at the studio or practicing yoga, Kristin can be found at any one of her three teenaged children’s events, games or concerts, perusing the aisles of Whole Foods or lounging with her cats watching Bravo or the Red Sox.

An asana practice should push you to find your edge so that you’re working hard enough that your mind doesn’t wander off…but not so hard you push beyond your limits and put excessive stress on the body.

It’s effortless effort that asks us to find the boundary between tapas — undergoing great sensation in service of transformation — and ahimsa — doing no harm.

Working hard enough so that you’re in that state of flow that allows us to be truly present looks different for everyone, and is different for our selves day by day.

This is where the physical practice meets the subtle practice that benefits our mental, spiritual and emotional health. ✨
