🕯️ Honoring Our Healers: The Nurses Honor Guard 🕯️
At Andrews Corgill Funeral Home, we believe every life deserves to be remembered with dignity and depth. For those who dedicated their lives to nursing, the Nurses Honor Guard offers a powerful tribute rooted in compassion, tradition, and gratitude.
👩⚕️ What is the Nurses Honor Guard? It’s a volunteer group of current and retired nurses who attend funerals or memorials to honor fellow nurses with a ceremonial farewell. Dressed in traditional white uniforms, caps, and navy capes, they perform the Nightingale Tribute—a brief but deeply moving ceremony:
A reading of the poem She Was There
Presentation of a white rose
Final Roll Call
Closing with The Nurses Prayer
Gift of the Nightingale lamp to the family
The entire tribute lasts about five minutes, but its impact is timeless.
🌟 Open Invitation We welcome any RN, LPN, NP, nursing student, or retired nurse who would like to join our Honor Guard. Your presence and service can bring comfort and meaning to families in our community.
🎥 See the Tribute in Action This past week, we were honored to host a Nurses Honor Guard service at our chapel. Below is a video clip that offer a glimpse into the grace and reverence of this farewell. They beautifully reflect the spirit of the Nightingale Tribute and the heartfelt presence of the Honor Guard.
💙 Why It Matters Just as military, police, and firefighters receive final honors, nurses deserve recognition for their lifelong service to healing and humanity. This tribute brings comfort to families and shines a light on the quiet heroism of those who were always there.
