It Always Seems Impossible Until…
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela

The quote “It always seems impossible until it’s done” by Nelson Mandela highlights how our perception of difficulty often exaggerates the limits of what we can achieve. When we face challenges, they can feel overwhelming or even unattainable, causing doubt and hesitation. However, Mandela’s words remind us that once we push through those moments of uncertainty and actually accomplish the task, what once felt impossible becomes proof of our capability. This shift in perspective encourages resilience and persistence, showing that limitations are often mental barriers rather than real ones. Ultimately, the quote inspires us to take action despite fear, trusting that effort and determination can turn the “impossible” into reality.

If you or someone you know is facing what seems like an impossible communication or physical challenge, Speak Easy Rehabilitation can help! Call us today at 919.346.3350 to schedule a consultation.

Congress Extends Medicare Telehealth Waivers Through December 2027
Congress passed a new legislative package on February 3 that extends Medicare telehealth waivers through the end of 2027, allowing occupational therapy practitioners to keep providing services remotely after a brief lapse caused by budget negotiations and a partial government shutdown. The two-year extension builds on the bipartisan Telehealth Modernization Act and continues policies first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The American Occupational Therapy Association and its partners pushed to make sure occupational therapy remained included, and the organization hopes Congress will use this extra time to create permanent telehealth policies so providers and patients don’t face future disruptions. More updates are expected once CMS releases additional guidance.

The Body Achieves What the Mind Believes.
“The Body Achieves What the Mind Believes” reflects the idea that mindset strongly influences performance and outcomes. When someone truly believes they can improve, succeed, or overcome challenges, that belief shapes their motivation, focus, and resilience — which in turn affects what they physically accomplish. Confidence and positive expectation can push people to train harder, persist longer, and recover from setbacks, while doubt can limit effort before real limits are reached. In this way, the quote suggests that mental attitude isn’t separate from physical results; it often sets the boundaries for what the body is willing and able to do.

It’s the Heart That Really Does the Healing
Ora Ruggles reminds us that true healing goes beyond activity or technique. Engaging the hands may occupy the body, but it is connection, meaning, and compassion that engage the heart. When care reaches the emotional and human core of a person—acknowledging their fears, hopes, and sense of purpose—it awakens an inner strength that no task alone can provide. Healing, at its deepest level, is not something done to a patient, but something that grows within them when the heart is invited to participate.

Speak Easy Rehabilitation helps patients who need occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Give us a call today at 919.346.3350 to schedule a consultation today.

Perception vs Physiology: Assessing the Risk of Dysphagia in Patients With Parkinson’s Disease
This article explores the critical gap between patient perception and physiological reality in swallowing disorders associated with Parkinson’s disease, drawing from both clinical experience and research. Northwestern University's, Dr. Rabab Rangwala describes how dysphagia in Parkinson’s is often “silent,” with patients under-reporting difficulties despite clear signs of impairment observed by caregivers and instrumental assessments.

Research involving individuals with Parkinson’s disease confirms that patient self-ratings frequently fail to reflect the severity of swallowing dysfunction, in part due to sensory deficits, cognitive changes, disrupted breathing-swallowing coordination, and subtle compensatory behaviors. The article emphasizes that relying solely on either patient reports or objective data is insufficient; instead, effective dysphagia management requires integrating patient-reported outcomes, caregiver observations, and instrumental evaluations. By bridging perception and physiology through interdisciplinary collaboration and person-centered care, clinicians can better identify risk, prevent complications such as aspiration pneumonia, and preserve dignity, safety, and quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
