Here is a little something about me: Music is my native language. In fact, I was singing before I could speak. Before I was a therapist, my career was in music.

The thing about music is.... music is when notes come together in exactly the correct way to be pleasing to the human nervous system. The notes come together integratively and collaboratively. Music: melody & harmony.

Something about trauma: trauma is like - a note that keeps stubbornly playing, even when the chord progression has changed. That kind of noise is distressing to the nervous system.

But trauma healing is resolving that tension, so that ALL the notes can play together again in a beautiful harmonic.

Remember when you were a little child and you fell and scraped your knee? You didn’t have to do anything to make the skin heal.

It just… healed. And a few days later - voila! - just like that, it was as good as new.

The only thing you *might* have done was remove anything that blocked healing — bacteria, dirt, little rocks. Your body took care of the rest.

Psychological healing works much the same way.

We don't have to click our heels three times or say the magic words or strain really hard to make something happen.

All we have to do is create the conditions that allow healing to happen.

And it does.

As a therapist, my number one job is helping clients remove the blockages so their nervous system can do what it already knows how to do: integrate and heal.

When the conditions are right, healing happens naturally.

Just like it did with those old skinned knees.

I’m so excited to announce that I am opening a limited number of EMDR Intensives in 2026!

These intensives are designed for focused, contained trauma work — three consecutive days of integration and healing.

If this something like this has been on your radar, maybe this is the time.

You can schedule a consultation call at www.jessicawitmer.com

I'd love to share more about my approach and get to know you.

Something that comes up periodically in the therapy room is spiritual abuse. In fact it's a very public conversation right now, and I’m glad that it is.

Spiritual abuse isn’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes it looks like fear dressed up as authority. Sometimes it looks like shame framed as holiness. Sometimes it looks like losing the right to interpret your own experience.

When it comes to mental health — indeed, health of any kind — balance is crucial.

Historically, women’s voices have often been suppressed within religious institutions.

That imbalance of interpretive and institutional power has consequences. It shapes theology. It shapes culture. It shapes nervous systems, and nervous systems shape children, and children shape the future.

I’m hopeful that we are living in a time where that balance is being reconfigured.

I look forward to a future where both men and women hold interpretive and institutional religious power — equally.

A time where that balance is being restored so that women’s voices are no longer quieted. Where wisdom is welcomed from every seat at the table, and where spiritual spaces feel more like circles than pyramids.

I took my first hypnosis training in 2017, and found it to be a powerful intervention for helping people.

This year, 9 years later, I am taking additional training in Ericksonian hypnosis.

I am thrilled to be learning more hypnosis skills, because I have seen the power of the subconscious mind at work with my clients.

I often grab a hold of the images and metaphors that my clients unconsciously share in our sessions, sometimes even using a picture, place, or metaphor as the primary tool to track change across many sessions.

The mind so often works in images and pictures that reveal deeper layers of both problems AND solutions.

Using that subconscious material often brings amazing results, because to create meaningful, lasting change requires the cooperation of both the conscious and the conscious mind.

I'm doing a happy dance today! Today, I sent in my application for EMDR Certification. Many people don't realize that there is a difference between the training required for EMDR-trained therapists vs EMDR-certified therapists. EMDR-certification takes many hours of additional training, practice, and supervision.

In totality, the journey from EMDR beginner to EMDR-certified therapist has taken *me* 3.5 years.

I am so happy that I have been able to gain a comprehensive understanding of how to use EMDR to assist my clients in integrating and recovering from both big "T" Traumas and small "t" traumas.

In the very short future, I will be using videos and reels to start unpacking what EMDR really is, and why it works, so watch for those videos in your feed or other social sites.
