Dr. Lynette Abrams-Silva's take on board certification in clinical neuropsychology:

Do not think of boards as a Test, and do not think of getting successfully boarded as the End. Instead, focus on the process of preparing. Particularly in sorting through your work samples and engaging in fact-finding, consider that big-N. Neuropsychology is not an answer, but a way of thinking. Find the way, and practice traversing it over and over again. And when you pass, know that you are solidly on the path, but the journey is not over! I realize I make neuropsychology sound like kung fu—but I have heard “kung fu” means “knowledge,” so maybe I’m not far off in my characterization. Like kung fu, you can demonstrate proficiency in the methods, but it is the practice of a lifetime.

Congratulations to Dr. Julie Alberty on her recent board certification. Dr. Alberty works for the Phoenix VA Health Care System and is a bilingual (Spanish & English speaking) neuropsychologist.

Dr. Alberty on why she decide to pursue board certification: I chose to pursue board certification after my supervisor on internship told me about it and essentially said it was a necessary thing to do. I looked into it and the early entry application. With eagerness I submitted the early entry and began the process. I think it is an important step to be assessed by your peers to ensure that you are providing good and competent work. I hope to mentor those who are working their way through the hurdles of this achievement and to continue to be of service to the board.

Congratulations to Dr. Kristin R. Krueger on her board certification in neuropsychology. Dr. Krueger is bilingual (English & Spanish speaking) and is in private practice in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Dr. Krueger's advice to others interested in pursuing board certification: It is both challenging and rewarding to pursue. The field of neuropsychology is ever changing and there is still a great amount of diversity of thought among clinicians. However, obtaining certification confers many advantages. For me the best one so far has been to witness the exchange of knowledge on the list serve, as this is such a great way to continue learning! Finally, if you don't pass one of the parts, don't give up. People don't talk as much about not passing, but it happens. I encourage you to look into one of the great study materials out there and to seek mentorship.
