“that sore, crunchy thing” is a muscle knot. But what actually is a “knot”? 🤔

▶️Muscle knots are small bumps that commonly appear on the back, neck, or shoulders and usually feel tender or sore when touched. They are muscle fibers and bands, which form a bump or “knot” when tightened under stress or tension.
▶️Some muscle knots/trigger points can also cause pain to radiate to other areas of the body in some cases.

🤔What does a muscle knot feel like?
Knots can vary significantly in size, from the size of a pea up to a golf ball or larger. Muscle knots will feel swollen and tense compared to the surrounding area.
🤔Where do muscle knots occur?
the most common places we see muscle knots develop are:
▶️Neck (typically on the sides)
▶️Shoulders
▶️Back (upper and lower)
▶️Glutes
▶️Legs (quadriceps, hamstrings, and thighs)
▶️Upper arms
🤔What causes muscle knots?
The most common causes of muscle knots are:
▶️Stress and anxiety
▶️Overexertion
▶️Poor posture
▶️Sitting for too long
▶️Unhealthy eating
▶️Dehydration

🤔What are muscle knots that crunch with massage?
muscle knots have reduced blood flow and circulation, which means toxins can become trapped in these areas. Over time, trapped toxins will solidify in the muscle knot if not dealt with, resulting in hard, crunchy bumps.

🤔How to get rid of muscle knots?
1️⃣Knots form based on how we move, taking the time to assess your lifestyle and how you inhabit your body throughout the day. You may be able to change a habit so that you don’t form the knots as quickly in the first place.
2️⃣Massage can help get rid of muscle knots. Self massage tools & techniques can be a great help in between sessions as well to help keep the knots at bay.

If you’re dealing with muscle knots and seeking relief, book a massage with us today! Massage therapy helps treat knots by increasing circulation and improving blood flow, which loosens stiff muscles and relieves tension. Choose from several types of massages and get a thorough consultation with your massage therapist to address specific pain points. Book now or give someone else the gift of relaxation with a gift certificate.

The American Massage Therapy Association has noted several studies that show how regular massage therapy can improve symptoms of several mood related disorders, such as anxiety, and depression, along with insomnia and chronic stress.

✅Massage therapy lowers your blood levels of cortisol, the hormone that triggers feelings of anxiety and stress, by a whopping 25%! (According to studies conducted at the University of Miami’s Touch Research Institute)

✅The simple act of getting a massage can increase the brain’s production of endorphins, the “feel good” hormones that affect your mood. More endorphins equals a calmer, more energized, happier you.

When you make massage a regular part of your routine, even just an hour per week, you will notice a difference in your overall physical and mental health and wellness.

-Massage not only stimulates the brain to release endorphins, but also increases the production of neurotransmitters associated with lowering anxiety, stress, and depression, and lowers hormones that cause these issues in the first place.

Massage is a wonderful way to improve your emotional and mental state. By simply enjoying the relaxing therapeutic touch offered by massage, you can boost your mood, and regular massages can ensure that you feel good in mind, body, and spirit for the long-term!
