We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Bermann’s passing. Eric was a co-founder of the Ann Arbor Center for the Family in 1976. The founders were drawn together by a shared passion for learning and practicing new ideas of family systems work at a time when these concepts were not supported in their departments of psychology, psychiatry, and social work. The founders shared values of intellectual development, collaboration, equality, and collegiality which informed practices at AACF such as consensus decision-making and a non-hierarchical structure. These core values continue to guide our work at AACF not just out of a shared tradition, but because we believe that they contribute significantly to our vitality as a setting in which we are supported by our colleagues and in which we provide high-quality treatment for our clients.
