Marjre’s Sunshine Day was a beautiful reminder that even in life’s hardest moments, joy can break through. When 95-year-old Marjre, who was living with Alzheimer’s, shared her wish to “lie in the grass,” her Arbor Hospice care team and loved ones made it happen — complete with music, snuggles from companion dog Hercules, blessings, and warm October sunshine.

Last week was one of those special and magical days where we got to experience some joy in the work that we do, supporting grieving families around this holiday season. Tara Derby and Melissa McCreedy, and their teams, along with the incredible support from Frank Ragnow's Rags Remembered Foundation, brought fun and smiles to families served in our Grief Support programs.

💜 Festivities kicked off with cookie decorating at the Homestead Kitchen in Westland.

💜 Lunch came from the best pizza place in Metro Detroit, Buddy’s Pizza.

💜 Then, the best part, opening gifts that were specially selected for each child.

What a joy to see the children’s excitement tearing into the wrapping paper and seeing toys from their wish list, courtesy of some helpful input from their guardians!

The evening ended cruising through the Wayne County Lightfest at Hines Park in luxury coaches from EM Black Car Service.

We want to express our immense gratitude to our teams, philanthropic partners, and the community businesses and organizations that make moments like this shine and the eyes of these children sparkle.

We’re so thankful for the students of Plymouth Christian Academy who chose Arbor Hospice for their community service again this year!

On October 22, more than 50 eighth graders spent the morning at our Oak Valley office, working in the gardens and helping with fall cleanup. Meanwhile, the seventh graders created beautiful, comforting blankets for our patients.

Our Grief Support Counselor, Melissa McCreedy, shared with the students how much these heartfelt gifts mean to those we serve and expressed appreciation for their compassion and care.

“It was such a gift to see children want to help on this level,” she said. 💛
