The Center works to promote healthy sexuality through scientific research and community engagement.

The SexLab conducts research on LGBT health disparities, including HIV prevention, comprehensive sexual health, and sexuality-related health disparities.

2026 marks the 100th year that we have celebrated Black history and the 50th year of Black History Month. Originally titled "Negro History Week' to mark the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas, it was expanded to the whole month in 1970 at Kent State University. It then spread across the country until being recognized nationally by President Ford in 1976. This long history highlights how important this time is to recognize the work and accomplishments of the Black community.

Happy birthday to our beautiful state of Michigan! This is the 189th anniversary of statehood, when we received the Upper Peninsula as compensation for giving up Toledo. I think we can all agree that we won that trade! Today we can celebrate all the great things about the state, even if it is from the comfort of your own home.

Despite being the largest segment of the LGBTQ+ community, bisexual people are often overlooked or stigmatized. This happens both within and outside the community. Today is a great day to recognize bisexuality and celebrate it as part of the diverse tapestry of identities that constitutes humanity.

A new era is dawning for us! After a significant amount of time and effort, we have transitioned to a new center. We are now the Center for Advancing Research in Identity, Sexuality, and Equity, or the ARISE Center. We are committed to conducting transformative research and promoting health equity for all. The future is bright and we are excited to see what happens next!

If you have not had a chance to go downtown, now is the best time to do it! Until Labor Day, there are events happening every weekend in the heart of Ann Arbor. The streets are partially closed to allow for more outdoor dinning, shops, music, and other activities. Celebrate the summer before we get ready for the new school year!

Happy 324th Birthday to the Great Motor City!

On this day in 1701, the site for Fort Pontchartrain du détroit was decided. This would eventually become the city known as Detroit (French for strait). This makes the city older than the country it is located in! Here is to many, many more years for the city on the strait!
