It was such a joy celebrating and honoring Black Breastfeeding Week at the recent Birth and Beyond event to wrap up National Breastfeeding Month! This was organized by the amazing Angel and Dera from Wrapped in Love Doula and Lactation Services We were thrilled to be able to support by donating a bunch of supplies to give away to families - pump bags, pumping bras, breast pads, and more! Jessica also hosted an informational Q&A table at the event and shared lots of info with expecting and new parents, from how to build up supply, to how much bottle feeds should be, to tips on weaning older babies and toddlers. It was a fantastic day, we were so glad to be a part of it, and congrats again to Wrapped in Love for all the phenomenal work they are doing! 👏🏻👏🏻

It is World Breastfeeding Week! The theme this year is closing the gap: Breastfeeding Support for All. What are some ways YOU felt supported as a breastfeeding parent during your feeding journey?

Breastfeeding support comes in many forms – from staff welcoming breastfeeding in your local café to helpful advice from a health worker or maternity protections from your government. These all help protect the health and rights of women and babies. We are honored to be a part of the team of perinatal professionals supporting breastfeeding parents and believe this work not only impacts mothers, babies, and families, but has local, national and global impacts as we see more families succeed with support from the start.

From the World Health Organization and their vision for support:
This year we want to really recognize breastfeeding parents, ensure they are seen and heard, and share relatable human experiences about breastfeeding and the importance of multi-level support.

This support includes:

➡️ Policies and attitudes that value women and breastfeeding
➡️ A women and breastfeeding-friendly health care system
➡️ Respect for women’s autonomy and her right to breastfeed anytime, anywhere
➡️ Solidarity and community support

There are actions we can all take that help women to breastfeed as long as they would like.
