Assessing allostatic load in Ring-Tailed Lemurs (Lemur catta)– Animals

Seeley et al. report the successful measurement of chronic stress biomarkers

in Ring-Tailed Lemurs. Chronic stress leads to serious health problems in all animals and measuring inflammatory load allows researchers to assess the extent of damage caused by chronic stress. These findings will allow zoo veterinary staff to better understand and alleviate chronic stress in Ring-Tailed Lemurs.

Bicarbonate-sensing soluble adenylyl cyclase is present in the cell cytoplasm and nucleus of multiple shark tissues – Physiological Reports

Roa and Tresguerres find that enzyme soluble adenylyl cyclase (sAC), which produces cAMP after bicarbonate stimulation, is found in many tissues in the leopard shark and suggests that sAC plays a role in regulating a wide variety of physiological processes.

Urinary specific gravity as an alternative for the normalisation of endocrine metabolite concentrations in Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) reproductive monitoring – PLOS ONE

Giant Pandas are an at-risk species. Each year they have one chance of pregnancy, and their fertile window only lasts on average 2 days. Wauters et al. used urinary creatinine levels to normalize urinary hormone metabolites, thereby allowing them to predict Giant Panda fertile windows. Read how our Urinary Creatinine kit (K002-H)was used.
