Parents, mark your calendars. April 2 is when Michigan’s new car seat laws go into effect. If you break the law, you could get a ticket, but more importantly, these laws could save lives.

One big change is that children under the age of two must be in a rear-facing seat.

Once they turn 5, they can move to a booster seat using a lap and shoulder belt until they are 8, or until they reach 4-foot-9.

All children 13 and under must ride in the backseat of the car, if there is an open backseat.

There are some exceptions to these rules, including reaching the maximum weight or height allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer.

Attention pediatric patients! As you know, we started online scheduling for well child visits and non-urgent visits this past fall. Effective immediately, you can now schedule same day (and next day) sick and injury visits yourself online for pediatrics! No more having to wait for the office to open to call and schedule. On our desktop homepage, this is the blue button underneath the first photo that says online scheduling. If you pull the same page up on your phone and use the mobile homepage, the same button will show up as a big blue box above the photo. We hope you are able to benefit from this new feature and look forward to your feedback. -Dr. B

Edited to add: If you don't see anything available online, feel free to call. The Family Med doctor urgent slots are not yet available online (they see all ages) and the pediatric providers are happy to look at our schedules to see if there is a place we can overbook your sick child to get them seem. We can't promise to see them same day 100% of the time but we'll try our best. The earlier in the day that we know there is a sick kid that needs to be seen, the better.

We can provide same day appointments or telemed video appointments. Our doctors are ready to treat your family, right when you need care. If you can’t make it to the office for a same day appointment, try a telemed appointment with your personal Emmaus clinician.
