Research shows that integrating care can improve patient experience and health outcomes. The integration of family planning services and services for those with substance use disorder is critical to ensuring the reproductive health needs of those with SUD are met. Our survey of nursing home residents over the summer found that 64 percent of respondents did not leave their rooms to socialize after Covid restrictions were imposed. https://altarum.org/sites/default/files/uploaded-publication-files/Nursing-Home-Resident-Survey_Altarum-Special-Report_FINAL.pdf As the vaccine begins to reach nursing homes across the US, we reflect on the devastating impact this disease has had on frail elders, from severe illness to the emotional toll of social isolation.

Just call your local nursing home, explain you’d like to send hand-written cards to their residents, and ask if they can receive them. To help promote safe opioid prescribing in dentistry, Altarum teamed up with the Michigan Opioid Prescribing Network (Michigan OPEN) to develop a free online training course for Continuing Dental Education (CDE) credit. This course meets Michigan’s licensure requirement for three credit hours of board-approved continuing education for pain and symptom management.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis is marching on. More than 2 million Americans struggle with opioid use disorder, with approximately 130 Americans dying each day from an opioid overdose, and the coronavirus may only exacerbate this already extensive problem.
