The Little Blue Light Project

The Little Blue Light Project Julia and Casey founded The Little Blue Light Project in order to support postpartum moms in a safe, authentic, and empowering way.

We are mamas who are passionate about supporting other mamas. It takes a village, and we want to be a part of your village We have all heard it - “Enjoy every moment! It goes by so fast!” Motherhood is beautiful and transformative. It is also messy, scary, and HARD! Our belief is that you have to acknowledge all parts of motherhood in order to thrive in your postpartum life. Julia and Casey founded the little blue light project in order to support postpartum Moms in an authentic, safe, and empowering way. It takes a village, and we want to be a part of your village.

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day and the first day of World Maternal Mental Health Month.

1 in 5 women suffer from a maternal mental health disorder. We need to talk about this more! Today, and throughout the month, we’ll use this space to share information about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, strategies for coping, ways to find help, and other information about maternal mental health. Supporting moms benefits everyone—and moms deserve to be healthy 🤍

✨ Matrescence — the birth of the mother.

The all-encompassing physical, psychological, emotional transformation that women go through after the birth of their child. It’s a profound shift — a total revolution that is so significant it quite literally changes one’s brain structure.

We don’t talk enough about this as a society. So often the arrival of the baby is given so much attention, that the needs of the mother often fall by the wayside. It’s time for that to change. It’s time for us to recognize that by caring for the mother, we are also caring for the baby.

What were your experiences with matrescence? ✨

About 2 in every 5 caesareans are unplanned. These are known as emergency caesareans.

An emergency C-section may be recommended if:
- There are concerns for the safety of you or your baby
-There is a life-threatening emergency for you or your baby
- Your labor is not progressing normally
-There are complications, such as severe bleeding or severe pre-eclampsia

There are four categories that describe the urgency for caesarean section:

Category 1 — immediate threat to the life of the mother or baby.
Category 2 — there are problems affecting the health of the mother and/or baby but they are not immediately life threatening.
Category 3 — the baby needs to be born early but there is no immediate risk to mother or baby.
Category 4 — the operation will take place at a time that suits the woman and the caesarean section team.

Some women feel happy after having a caesarean birth, but others can feel a range of overwhelming emotions, particularly if it was unexpected. Very urgent caesareans (Category 1) happen very quickly and can be a traumatic experience for parents and support people.

Women who experience unplanned c sections are at a much higher risk of mental health disorders including PTSD, PPD, and PPA. If you have negative feelings about your birth, it’s important to seek help as early as possible:

- Talk to your OB/midwife immediately after the birth about your experience
- Ask for practical and emotional support from friends and family
- If needed, therapy or medicines can be used as treatment
