It is with great sadness that The Young Scientist Foundation bids farewell to our dear friend and co-founder, Chef Floyd Cardoz. He inspired us to change the world, touched the lives of so many people, and was the first foundational block in the creation of YSF. His legacy of love, mentorship, and kindness to all will continue to be spread through all those who knew him. Our sincerest condolences to his wife, Barkha Cardoz, and their two sons Justin and Peter. You will always be in our hearts and memories, Chef Cardoz!

Wonderful news to share with the YSF community! Former YSF student, Kareem King, has been accepted to Harvard University on a full academic scholarship!

Kareem spent two years working in the DiFeo Lab at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

Everyone at the Young Scientist Foundation would like to offer our sincerest congratulations and wish Kareem all the best as he moves forward!

CLEVELAND- Delivering the perfect commencement address takes practice. FOX 8 cameras were there as valedictorian Kareem King, 18, rehearsed his speech to be delivered in front of his classmates, family and friends at Brush High School’s graduation Wednesday night at Playhouse Square. Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Young Scientist Foundation (YSF), I am writing to personally thank you for your previous generous donations, but to also ask for your help. Here at YSF, we consider our donors a huge part of our family, and as with any family, when times get a little tough, we look to those closest to us to help us get the lift we need in order to get back on our feet. As all of you know, the last few years have seen some trying times for YSF since our peak in 2017. Part of this is due to the individual personal successes of our board members over these past few years, limiting the amount of time they could devote to YSF. Part of it is due to the fact that we had some internal staff turnover, and due to a very tight budget, were not able to hire replacements.

This letter is not being sent in order to highlight the past successes or failures of YSF, but instead to focus on the future success I and the other board members know that we can all achieve by working together to raise the funding needed to continue our efforts to support the next generation of young scientists. We eventually would like to resume our annual gala as well, but at this time want to take simple steps. The first step is to raise the funding needed to hire an Executive Director who will be devoted full-time to YSF and its mission.

I am intentionally not including dollar amounts in this letter or attaching a specific funding request for money. I am simply writing to you to ask for your support. No amount is too small, as this effort will change the lives of our student researchers at the laboratory bench and beyond, and hopefully many more lives at the bedside over the years to come.
Our hope is that we can continue our mission of funding the internships of high school students in biomedical research laboratories. We remain committed to being the wind beneath the wings of these high school students, aiding them in their quest to soar towards the fulfillment of their dreams of developing cures that will improve the lives of people both today and for future generations.
Please call me to personally discuss the future of YSF and how you can be a part of our rebirth.

Sincerely Yours,
Goutham Narla, M.D., Ph.D. President and CEO The Young Scientist Foundation

Sincerely,
The Young Scientist Foundation Board of Director

This week is American Education Week, focusing on Public Schools for All. The Young Scientist Foundation ensures all students are given the opportunity to participate in our summer program despite race, gender or socioeconomic status and actively market our program to public schools in the Cleveland and New York areas.

“Together, we’ll show what makes our public schools some of the best in the world: all of us, each of us,” says NEA President.
