Mother’s Day can bring many emotions.
For some, it’s a day of celebration and connection. For others, it may carry grief, longing, estrangement, infertility, loss, complicated relationships, trauma, or the ache of what never was. We want to honor all of those experiences today.

We also recognize that “mothering” extends far beyond biology or traditional roles. It lives in the people who nurture, protect, encourage, advocate, listen, show up, and help others heal. Some of the most meaningful mothering figures are grandparents, siblings, friends, foster parents, mentors, teachers, partners, therapists, neighbors, or chosen family.

Today, we celebrate the strong women and nurturing figures who have shaped us, and the ways many of us offer that same care to others every day, whether or not we are mothers ourselves.

Wherever this day finds you, we hope you make space for your experience with gentleness and compassion. 💜

What if therapy wasn’t only about what feels hard, but also about what’s already strong?
The VIA is a free, research-based tool that helps identify core character strengths such as curiosity, perseverance, kindness, honesty, humor, or leadership.

While therapy often focuses on reducing symptoms and understanding patterns, lasting change also comes from recognizing strengths and learning how to use them intentionally in daily life.

When you understand your strengths, it can help you:
• Navigate stress with more flexibility and resilience
• Build coping strategies that actually fit who you are
• Increase motivation and follow-through in goals
• Improve relationships and communication
• Feel more grounded in identity and meaning

This also helps us as clinicians support you more effectively. Knowing your strengths gives us a clearer picture of how you naturally cope, what motivates you, and what approaches are most likely to be effective for you. It allows us to tailor therapy so it feels more aligned, practical, and empowering rather than one-size-fits-all.

For example, someone high in curiosity may benefit from experiential learning and trying new coping skills, while someone high in honesty may respond well to direct insight and reflection. Your strengths help guide the direction of treatment.

If you’re curious, you can take the VIA assessment for free and bring your results into session. It often becomes a useful starting point for building on what already works rather than focusing only on what doesn’t.

We’re so excited to welcome Julie Wymore to our team!

Julie provides therapy to people across the lifespan, with a special interest in working with young children, strengthening parent–child relationships, and supporting older adults. She is trained in DC:0–5, a diagnostic framework designed specifically for infants and young children (birth through age five). DC:0–5 helps clinicians understand emotional and behavioral concerns within the context of early development and relationships, allowing for more developmentally appropriate assessment and care.

She is also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Brainspotting, and EMDR, integrating these evidence-based approaches to help clients process trauma, build coping skills, and move toward healing.

In addition, Julie incorporates play therapy, recognizing that play is a child’s natural language and a powerful way for children to express emotions, work through experiences, and build resilience.

Clients often describe Julie as having a wonderful balance of professionalism and playfulness. She brings creativity and warmth to her work while maintaining the thoughtful clinical structure that helps children and families feel safe, supported, and understood.

Julie currently has immediate openings for new clients. If you’re interested in scheduling, please complete the contact form on our website, and our team will reach out to help you get started.

Not just mentally, physically too.

Depression pulls you horizontal.
Stay in bed. Stay still. Shut it all down.
And the longer you stay there, the heavier everything feels.

This is where opposite action matters.
When your brain says, “Don’t get up,”
your body can answer, “Just sit up.”

Not a full morning routine.
Not a total life reset.
Just change the angle.

Because posture matters more than we think.
Lying down reinforces shutdown.
Sitting up creates a small shift in energy.
Standing, even briefly, signals movement.
And movement creates momentum.

You don’t need motivation first.
Motivation often comes after action.

So the goal isn’t “feel better.”

The goal is:
-Feet on the floor
-Stand for 30 seconds
-Take a few steps

That’s it.

Tiny, almost stupidly small actions that interrupt the depressive loop.
Because depression thrives in stillness but weakens, even slightly, with movement.

You’re not fixing everything.
You’re just refusing to stay completely stuck.
And that counts more than your brain will give you credit for.

Dialectical thinking reminds us that two things can be true at the same time.
You can be struggling and growing.
You can feel overwhelmed and capable.
You can be tired and still trying.
All of it belongs.

This skill can be helpful because it softens all-or-nothing thinking, reduces shame, and creates more room for compassion and choice when things feel hard.

Right now, many of us in Minnesota are feeling a collective sense of heaviness. Between the shortest days of the year and the recent tensions and uncertainty in our communities, our nervous systems are working overtime to keep us safe.

When we are under constant stress, whether from the environment, the news, or personal life, our bodies can get stuck in a state of dysregulation.

The most important thing to know is that you aren’t failing at being okay. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do: protect you.

The goal isn't to fix your mood instantly, but to gently signal to your body that, in this very moment, you are safe. Use this chart to identify where you are today and try one small helper to find your flow again.
