Parents have long warned about too much screen time, and now science is confirming their concerns. The largest brain study ever conducted on children shows clear neurological effects linked to excessive digital use.

Researchers found that extended hours on phones, tablets, and computers can slow attention, affect memory, and even change the way certain brain regions develop. The study emphasizes that these are measurable neurological changes, not just opinions. Children’s brains are highly sensitive to stimulation, and without proper breaks or limits, the neural pathways that support focus, emotional regulation, and problem-solving can be disrupted.

The key takeaway is simple. Monitoring screen time, encouraging offline activities, and giving kids consistent breaks helps protect their brain development and supports healthy cognitive growth.

Excited for this much needed service for the children of our community!

We’re so excited to welcome Julie Wymore to our team!

Julie provides therapy to people across the lifespan, with a special interest in working with young children, strengthening parent–child relationships, and supporting older adults. She is trained in DC:0–5, a diagnostic framework designed specifically for infants and young children (birth through age five). DC:0–5 helps clinicians understand emotional and behavioral concerns within the context of early development and relationships, allowing for more developmentally appropriate assessment and care.

She is also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Brainspotting, and EMDR, integrating these evidence-based approaches to help clients process trauma, build coping skills, and move toward healing.

In addition, Julie incorporates play therapy, recognizing that play is a child’s natural language and a powerful way for children to express emotions, work through experiences, and build resilience.

Clients often describe Julie as having a wonderful balance of professionalism and playfulness. She brings creativity and warmth to her work while maintaining the thoughtful clinical structure that helps children and families feel safe, supported, and understood.

Julie currently has immediate openings for new clients. If you’re interested in scheduling, please complete the contact form on our website, and our team will reach out to help you get started.

The behavior isn’t the problem.....it’s a clue indicating a child’s sensory system is overwhelmed, not that they’re being “difficult.”

In this two-part video series, pediatric occupational therapist Alyssa Mason breaks down how sensory activities can support self-regulation and healing for all children, with special attention to children who have experienced trauma.

Part 1 looks at the why (https://f.mtr.cool/saafdjgocl
• How sensory systems connect to self-regulation and co-regulation
• What trauma can do to a child’s sensory processing
• What to pay attention to in group care settings
• Why consent matters when offering sensory support

Part 2 focuses on the how (https://f.mtr.cool/lftgtivumw
• Hands-on and hands-off sensory strategies for each sensory system
• Ways to ask for and respect a child’s consent
• How to tell if a strategy is actually helping

Check them out for yourself and build confidence in how you support children’s regulation, safety, and connection.
