👶🏼 Infants have 65-75 degrees of lateral flexion in their necks

Optimal mobility into lateral flexion is important for:

▪️Gaining head control
▪️Developing balance reactions
▪️Allowing full neck rotation
▪️Symmetric gross motor development

🎉You can screen your baby for tightness or asymmetries in lateral flexion.🎉

✨✨✨Early identification of tightness allows for more complete and quicker recover with treatment. ✨✨✨

Limitations in lateral flexion are commonly seen with a head turning preference so be sure to check your baby’s rotation as well!

Seeing restrictions or asymmetry? Noticing your baby tends to tilt or turn their head to one side frequently? 👇🏻

Do not wait….get help from an expert 🎉

🌼 At Little Daisy Development we specialize in treating infants ages 0-12 months 👶🏼. This focused cares allows for advanced training and skill in supporting your baby. We encourage early intervention to set your baby up with success, building a strong foundation for learning more advanced gross motor skills. 🌼

“Wait and See” is not an acceptable answer to your concerns about your baby!

👶🏼 When we notice asymmetries in posture or movement babies should be referred to a specialist to get to the root cause of the asymmetry.

✨✨Treatment should not be delayed while “waiting to see” during a critical period of infant development.✨✨

Waiting only allows a few more months of baby learning to move in atypical patterns. 🛑

We know early intervention results in quicker and more complete recovery of postural issues like Torticollis.

❤️❤️❤️I love when I have a new parent who tells me their pediatrician told them to wait and they say they told the pediatrician they are not ok with waiting and want to address the issue now 🙌🏻

Almost every time the parent is right and their baby is better off by having been seen earlier 🎉

Do not be afraid to advocate for your baby!

If you are in the DMV area looking for support for your baby come see me at Little Daisy Development in Dunkirk, MD 📍

You can schedule an evaluation without a referral!

Notice your baby consistently tilting their head to one side?

✨✨✨THIS IS NOT A SIGN TO IGNORE✨✨✨

🛑A head tilt preference is a sign of MUSCLE IMBALANCES that are impacting your baby’s alignment and function 💯

This is something that should be assessed by an expert in infant development and movement. A pediatric specialized physical therapist!

Here are a few reasons your baby may have a head tilt:

👶🏼Tightness in the neck

👶🏽Tightness in the trunk or hips

👶🏾Weakness in the neck/ core

👶🏿Visual impairments

It is important to see a specialist who can get to the ROOT CAUSE for best treatment and outcomes! 🎉

Babies should be able to bring their head to 🙌🏻 MIDLINE 🙌🏻 for optimal development.

📚Midline head orientation allows for better active range of motion and development of symmetric balance responses and strengthening that allows for upright posture against gravity in sitting and standing.

✨Development builds upon itself and that is why intervening early is important to LAY A SOLID FOUNDATION your baby to grow and thrive!✨

📍Local to the DMV area? Come see me in northern Calvert County, MD. I will help you get to the root cause of your baby’s issues so we can start laying a strong foundation for the future today 💪🏻

I have heard this comment many times from moms in my clinic “My baby will not stay on their back” or “they keep rolling to the side when I lay them down”

✨✨✨This comment screams BODY TENSION to me!!!✨✨✨

Just knowing the baby rolls to the side is not enough information. I have so many other questions.

🖤Are they always rolling to the same side?

🖤Can they turn their head to each side without their body rolling?

🖤Do they hold their trunk in a rotated or sidebent position?

🖤Can they relax their legs down or do they seem stuck with their hips up?

🖤Are you noticing baby had a hard time nursing on one breast? (Feeding is very closely related to the body)

Remember, YOU are the EXPERT ON YOUR BABY. Spend time observing their movements today.

If you have questions or concerns it is time to seek support from an expert in infant development.

💯Early intervention is key in setting your baby up for success.

When I see a baby in my clinic with these concerns I will provide a full evaluation of the baby head to toe to get to the root cause of the postural issues and asymmetric movement. Most babies presenting with body tension benefit from bodywork to address the restrictions that are influencing how they move.

🙌🏻The goal is to promote SYMMETRIC UNRESTRICTED MOVEMENT so your baby can more OPTIMALLY EXPLORE THEIR ENVIRONMENT and proceed with their natural gross motor development.🙌🏻

Hand fi***ng can be a normal part of infant development. A little hand fi***ng here and there is to be expected.

While occasional hand fi***ng is normal, predominant or more frequent hand fi***ng can be a SIGN OF BODY TENSION.

In order to support typical development we want to see a VARIETY OF HAND POSTURES and active hand opening to allow for sensory and motor exploration of the environment. When there is persistent or predominant hand fi***ng your baby may be MISSING OUT on some key early development opportunities.

IMPORTANT 👇

✨✨✨Hand fi***ng is often accompanied by OTHER SIGNS OF BODY TENSION✨✨✨

In this image we also see asymmetric posture with a head tilt. AND you can’t see it but he also had a tongue tie and many feeding difficulties. Is this sounding similar to your baby?

If you notice hand fi***ng DO SOME MORE INVESTIGATION👇

🖤Observe your baby for asymmetric postures like a head tilt or turning preference.

🖤Check to see that they have normal range of motion at their neck.

🖤See out how they do with tummy time.

If you have concerns or are looking for support from an expert on infant development, lets chat!

Babies are meant to move freely without restriction in a variety of movement patterns. This variable movement allows for development of the motor system and influences the development of the sensory systems as well. When there is tension present this can impact a babies ability to fully engage with their environment and can also impact functional skills like latching/feeding and tummy time.

Babies with body tension present with RESTRICTIONS IN MOVEMENT that IMPACT their FUNCTION and often influence their comfort. These restrictions could be due to a number of reasons.

✨Tightness in muscles
✨Restrictions in the fascia
✨Heightened state of the neurological system
✨Abnormal neurological system

The good news is we can influence these systems through body work to improve mobility, ease of movement and nervous system regulation. 💯

Are you noticing stiff postures in your baby? Asymmetries in movement? Appearance of discomfort and tension? Feeding difficulties with tightness anywhere in the body? Baby who doesn’t like tummy time or laying on their back?

🖤Bodywork is an intervention that can help address that tension.🖤

The earlier we can address tension and promote optimal mobility the better for your baby’s development!

Moms and dads of NICU grads,

You made it home from the NICU! Congrats! What a life changing and challenging experience you went through. You are amazing and so is your baby! 🙌🏻

You likely have many questions or concerns about what is next and how your baby will grow and develop.

I want to introduce myself. I am Ashley, owner of Little Daisy Development, infant PT, neonatal therapist and NICU mom myself. 🖤

✨I am available to answer your questions, ease your worries and start helping your baby move better and meet milestones today! ✨

A NICU stay can alter the course of development putting infants at higher risk of postural asymmetries or motor delays. Unfortunately, there is not always adequate support for these babies ir their parents once they are home.

NICU babies have special developmental needs and benefit from intervention from a specialized provider knowledgeable in NICU baby development.

Looking for support for your baby? I’ve got you. 🌼

I have many years of experience working as a neonatal therapist in a level 4 NICU as well as following NICU babies after discharge for therapy. I feel so blessed to be able to be a part of the entire journey from NICU to home. Having an understanding of the NICU stay enhances my ability to serve babies once they are home. I have experience with the medically complexities and challenges infants face during the NICU stay and am familiar with the developmental issues we commonly see impacting motor development after discharge. This allows me to provide special individualized care for your baby.

Hi friends! I am so glad you are here!

I have been busy helping babies but quiet on social media so wanted to take a minute to reintroduce myself.

I am Ashley, pediatric physical therapist and owner of Little Daisy Development.

I have a passion for supporting infant development from the beginning and love watching babies bloom with the just right support and guidance.

I have been a pediatric PT for 13 years with experience working in an inpatient children’s hospital as well as in the outpatient world. For the last 10 years I have focused my career on treating infants. Having such a specific patient population helps me to sharpen my expertise in observation and treatment to optimize progress in this critical stage of development. I currently work in a level 4 NICU in addition to seeing babies locally in Dunkirk, MD.

I have completed training in craniosacral therapy which is incoorporated into wellness or therapy sessions with goals of nervous system regulation and optimal mobility throughout the body. Calm relaxed babies who are ready to explore their environment 🥰

I am accepting new clients for both PT and wellness visits 🌼
