Low back pain from a disc herniation? Your piriformis muscle might be involved, too.
The piriformis is a deep muscle in the buttock that helps rotate the hip and stabilize the pelvis. The muscle overlies the sciatic nerve and can sometimes compress it.
A new study found that people with a herniated disc often have a thicker piriformis muscle, possibly due to inflammation or compensation.
That’s why it’s important to assess more than just the spine. Muscle imbalances can play a significant role in pain and movement. Call us today to book a consultation! 📞\
