INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT: MEET ALICIA!

You may already know Alicia as the Co-Lead Trainer of Blue Lotus’s 200-hour YTT, and the Lead Trainer of the 50-hr Yin Yoga Training & Immersion. We’re thrilled to announce that Alicia now teaches 75-minute Vin/Yin Yoga Thursdays at 9:30am!

ABOUT ALICIA

Alicia has been teaching yoga in the Annapolis area for over 20 years. She is an E-RYT 500 with additional certifications in Thai Yoga Massage, yin yoga, restorative yoga, yoga for cancer patients and care givers, yoga therapy, yoga for resiliency and yoga for trauma recovery as well as the Hot 26 & 2 (Bikram) series.

Hi everyone! It’s me, Julie, coming to you in real time from my hot tub (aka “spa” for you sub-Gen Xers). Many of you already know that 105 degree soaks are a consistent part of my self-care routine. Double points if I can time it during a sunset! That’s right, my self-care routine follows an elaborate and unforgiving points system. (jk - clearly that would defeat the purpose of caring for oneself.)

What are some other ways I reduce stress and anxiety, you didn’t ask?

For starters, I’m borderline obsessive about skin care and adore a good Michale Myers-style collagen mask (never seen the film, btw. Horror movies are not a part of the routine.)

Third, I’m fortunate to have incredible female friends who understand the health benefits of a girls trip as much as I do. (Grateful for a spouse who supports this science-backed theory, too!)

Another way I stay somewhat sane? A few years ago I added weight and resistance training to my regular movement routine because, 48 (…for 10 more days, anyway). After 3 years of making ’s “5 most cantankerous clients” list, I’m surprised to say I actually ENJOY exercising now (minus frog jumps, which will always be detestable).

And finally, yoga is still a big part of my life. I especially enjoy incorporating yin yoga and sound healing experiences as often as I can (which is not often enough. Mental note to do more of this!). Special shout out to for cold contacting me early this year (pictured in photo 6). His gong sound bath experience is AMAZING, and I’m so glad our paths crossed. 🙏

So much has changed in the 7 ½ years since Blue Lotus Yoga Studio first opened its doors. Class formats have shifted, walls have been repainted, and we navigated a pandemic that transformed living rooms and home offices into sacred practice spaces.

But beyond the paint colors and class schedules, what stands out most is the time we’ve shared as a community.

We’ve celebrated weddings, welcomed babies, and walked alongside one another through illness and hardship, while witnessing the resilience, grace, and courage that define the Blue Lotus community.

Studio ownership comes with its fair share of drudgery—from running payroll, to filling shifts, to responding to emails—that can easily become overwhelming. What lifts me every time are the moments when we gather.

Hosting events like our upcoming Open House is more than just free classes and cold-pressed juice (although you can expect both!). It’s a chance to come together as a community and remember why Blue Lotus exists: to be a place of connection, growth, and shared humanity.

I hope you’ll join us on Saturday, October 4, for, yes—free classes, refreshments, door prizes, and, of course, a chance to engage with your neighbors.

✨INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT: MEET MEREDITH!✨

Meredith first appeared on the class schedule as a “Wonder Sub,” frequently filling in while two of our regular barre teachers were on maternity leave. By popular demand, Meredith was invited to officially join the BLYS team this summer. She teaches Barre every Wednesday at 6:00pm!

ABOUT MEREDITH

Meredith is a passionate barre3-certified instructor who brings a powerful blend of energy, strength, and mindfulness to every class. With a deep love for movement and connection, she guides clients through high-energy, strength-building workouts rooted in intentional breath and body awareness. Her classes are designed to challenge and uplift—helping clients feel empowered, centered, and strong from the inside out.

Whether you’re new to barre or a seasoned regular, Meredith creates a welcoming, supportive space where everybody is celebrated and transformation happens through consistency and joy.

When she’s not working or at the barre, you can find Meredith downtown, with family on the Eastern Shore, on the water, or planning her next overseas adventure!

Our Story

Blue Lotus Yoga Studio was founded in 2018 by Julie Nogueira and Duffy Perkins. Their mission---to create a space where everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered. BLYS takes a holistic approach to health and wellness with classes designed to tone, strengthen, balance, and restore.

At Blue Lotus Yoga Studio, you’ll find both heated and non-heated yoga, as well as barre, sculpt, and cardio kick classes. Our two-studio space enables us to offer traditional vinyasa, gentle, and yin in one room, and fitness classes in another, air conditioned space.

Our goal is simple: we aim to provide Annapolis area residents with a premier yoga and fitness experience in a welcoming, supportive environment. Our space is clean and inviting and our teachers are the best in the region.
