It sounds crazy but this is one of the most popular questions I get. So the short answer is: Probably.
First, the same muscles used during the pushing phase of labor are the same muscles used during a bowel movement.
Second, some of the same hormones that initiate labor are also part of normal vowel function.
Lastly, the added pressure from baby during labor can affect increase your chances.
Your saving grace: pooping during labor in a great indicating that you’re pushing effectively and bring you that closer to seeing you little one. And don’t even worry about the staff. They are professionals and pooping during labor happens all the time. The key is not to let the fear of it happening affect your progress and you experience.

It’s natural to want to resist any discomfort that comes along. For most of our lives, avoiding pain has kept us safe.
But birth is different. It’s a process. The pain has a purpose. And the more we resist the more uncomfortable we become. Prepare your mind and lean into each contraction knowing how they work and how you can work with them.

When people ask me what I do for a living, I’m sometimes met with blank stares when I reply “I’m a childbirth educator”. Sometimes I even get “So you teach people how to have babies?!” My answer: yes and no

I help you prepare for the birth of your child in a way that fits your lifestyle.

I provide options on pain management and medications, reinforce communication skills between the laboring person and birth partner, help you prepare a birth plan, provide details on procedures that may occur, and more, in the comforts on your home or online.

Overall, I provide you with the knowledge to make the choices that work best for you during labor and delivery while preparing you for the unpredictability of birth.

It is my belief that you should walk into birth confident in the options you’ve decided on and well aware of what’s available to you if changes occur.

If your family is , head over to ConfidentlyBirthing.com and book a class that works best for you.

Water birth is the process of giving birth in a pool/tub of warm water. Due to its increasing popularity, water births are becoming more readily available at birth centers, home births, and hospitals.
-
-
Those in labor may choose to get out of the water for delivery or continue to give birth in the water as well.
-
-
Benefits include: easier position changes, less stress on muscles and joints, greater ability to physically and mentally relax, increased elasticity of the perineum which can reduce tearing, similar environment for baby’s transition.
-
-
Talk to your provider about risk factors such as: breech presentation, multiples, presence of meconium, etc.
-
-
Many partners participate in water births by being fully present in the pool/tub offering comforts measures and relaxation techniques.
-
-
What are your thoughts on water births? If you’ve had one, what was your experience like?

It sounds so simple, but many in labor get so caught up in everything that’s going on that they literally forget to breathe.
Breathing helps your birthing muscles work more efficiently and moves oxygenated blood to your baby.
Focusing on your breathing or even just the word “breathe”, allows you to calm your mind, relax your muscles, and remove distractions that could cause unnecessary stress.
