Now more than ever, it is of the greatest importance to keep our hands clean and not touch the face.
Hand sanitizers are an essential item in every home, office, purse, and pocket these days. When used properly, they are a very effective tool for maintaining cleanliness and preventing the spread of disease.
In a publication issued today by the FDA, health experts warn consumers about the dangers of an ingredient commonly found in hand sanitizers called 1-propanol.
This ingredient suppresses the central nervous system, which is responsible for regulating heart rate, breathing, and consciousness.
Avoiding the use of this ingredient is the best option. There are many other safe options on the market. If you’re feeling crafty and want to make your own, beware. The FDA does not recommend this options s the formulation may not be effective and can cause chemical burns on the skin.
Using products found in the pharmacy or store is the safest option when it comes to choosing a hand sanitizer. However, a 20-second hand wash with plain soap and hot water is the best.
