Ever felt like you're putting on a performance just to get through the day? 🎭
As Purim begins, I can’t help but reflect on the deeper meaning behind the holiday’s traditions. We wear masks on Purim, but for many ADHD individuals, masking is an everyday reality—hiding struggles, thoughts, and emotions to fit into social or professional expectations.
In my recent conversation with Ian Anderson Gray on The Smart ADHD Podcast, we dove into the reality of ADHD masking—how it drains energy, creates communication struggles in relationships, and leads to emotional exhaustion.
I shared insights from my work as a licensed therapist specializing in ADHD couples, including the differences in how men and women experience masking and practical strategies to help navigate it. One story that stood out was about a couple where one partner constantly masked their true feelings—leading to deep misunderstandings and frustration. 💔
Purim reminds us that things aren’t always as they seem. Sometimes, unmasking is the only way to truly connect—with others and with ourselves.
👉 If you've ever felt the weight of masking, or if you want to better understand ADHD in relationships and daily life, this episode is packed with valuable insights.
