In their first days of life, Sloane and Owen both needed open-heart surgery. As neighbors, their parents have been there for each other through it all. Now, they raise funds through the Race for Every Child 5K Run/Walk to give back. ❤️

A 30-second test saved her life. 🫀 When Charlie was born, something didn’t seem right. A simple pulse-ox test revealed dangerously low oxygen levels—leading to a diagnosis of a life-threatening heart condition. At just four days old, she underwent emergency surgery to repair a critical narrowing in her aorta. Thanks to expert care and a quick diagnosis, Charlie is now almost 3 and thriving.

Yesterday, First Lady Melania Trump visited patients and families at Children’s National in the Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, which she helped open in 2017, ahead of the 4th of July holiday. We are deeply grateful to the First Lady for continuing the longstanding tradition of First Ladies bringing joy and comfort to our patients, families and staff here in the nation’s capital. We especially appreciate the gift of a yellow hybrid tea rose bush, which longtime White House groundskeeper Dale Haney personally planted in our Healing Garden! 💛

Elliott loves zipping around on his scooter and sprinting down the soccer field. After four heart surgeries to treat a rare congenital heart condition, he is excited to follow in his mom Sarah's footsteps and earn a medal at the Race For Every Child 5K Run/Walk!
