Parents are always worried about school and scoliosis. Let's not weight down the spine with 50 # of books. Try to limit to 10% of body weight. Only carry what you need. Maybe split the books between your backpack and carrying them in your hands. Some people get a second set of books - one for school and one to keep at home. If you are wearing a brace, will the top locker be easier to access? Can you sit and keep your spine elongated or are your knees higher than your hips causing you to round your spine? Getting that well visit done over the summer - make sure that if some asymmetry is noticed, your doctor uses a scoliometer to measure the rotation. More that 5 degrees - get an x-ray! Don't wait and see what happens...

You still have time - summer is a great time to screen your child for scoliosis before those layers of clothes go back on! Look for asymmetry, spinal curve and when they are bending over to dive into the pool (maybe more likely then cleaning their room)- look for the rib hump. If you see any of these signs, contact us and will be help you with your journery.
