CareFirst Update: We are still in communication with the Baltimore Banner and other reps regarding the ongoing issue with the self-funded policies not processing claims. We're aware that claims that are processing are denying for lack of prior authorization and lack of Medicare EOB. The Maryland Insurance Administration has capitulated on a few cases and sent info to CareFirst on our behalf given the sheer number of complaints, even though it is not their jurisdiction.

Providers cannot bill patients for the failure of their policies to pay, however you can refuse to them treat them due to non-payment.

Insurance update: Carefirst is actively finalizing outstanding claims for State Employee Health Plans. We're expecting to see a lot of denials and improper processing as the issues get resolved. We're looking for anyone with affected patients to have their patients request the Summary Plan Description (SPD) from their employer or HR department so that we may review it for our legal options to enact rapid resolve of these issues. Please send a copy or arrange transmission to our head of insurance at info@marylandacupuncturesociety.org.

Medicare EOB request denials: we are aware that some plan phone reps are no longer able to force reprocessing. We're experimenting with resubmitting with claim notes and will update if it works.

Currently we're seeing a number of denied and improperly processed claims are auto-reprocessing without prompts indicating that carefirst is aware of some issues and actively fixing them. We are monitoring these occurrences.
