We hope potential clients will find the new site easier to navigate and find the info you’re looking for.

Our old logo is gone (😭) replaced by a simple BA.

Give it a look and let us know what you think!

Thank you Dr. Jamie Marich for this post. It’s just as timely now as in 2020 and relevant far beyond EMDR therapy alone.

When I opened my practice in 2013, I spoke with so many many therapists who, despite the fact that they were not identifying as “faith based” or “Christian counselors”…

* said things like “what would Jesus do?” Or “lets pray together to our Heavenly Father” to clients who neither identified as Christian nor were seeking Christian counseling

* had psalms and other bible quotes on their therapy office walls while claiming they do not push their religious views onto clients, and that they are accepting of all

* when clients who themselves identified as LGBTQIA+ or were seeking to support LGBTQIA+ family members asked for resources, the therapist would offer a business card of a conversion therapy organization, describing it as an affirming resource

I felt that many therapists in our local area were misleading the public about offering “counseling” when they were actually offering Christian counseling - not the same thing.

Fortunately, this has changed a bit in those 12 years - those people are still out there doing the same thing (very unfortunately), but more practices have opened in the area that are offering traditional psychotherapy and counseling, so people searching for therapy are more likely to see a variety of options and make their own decisions based on what feels like the right match.

As my respected colleague and friend Dr. Jamie Marich explains in this post, so much harm can be done by those who are blinded by religious indoctrination. When critical thinking is unavailable, we cling to dogmatic beliefs - which is okay for you to do in your personal life, but as therapists is seriously problematic and unethical behaviors often occur.

More importantly, people are harmed and lives are lost.

If you’re a therapist who wants to help members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and you identify as a person of faith, please read this and consider the wise points Jamie makes.

I've been busy recording some new interviews for upcoming Therapy Chat episodes! I'm excited to share them with you, starting next week with Episode 482 - my interview with Dr. Hillary McBride.

We talked about embodiment/disembodiment in podcasts with trauma survivors; psychedelic assisted therapy, spiritual abuse and much more! The new season of her podcast, Other People's Problems, comes out next week! Hillary McBride

Then, Episode 483 with Dr. Stephen Porges + Karen Onderko is all about everything I've ever wanted to know about the Safe + Sound Protocol from the people who literally wrote the book (and created the protocol)! Their new book, "Safe and Sound: A Polyvagal Approach for Connection, Change and Healing" is out now! Polyvagal Institute Unyte Health

After that, I'll share my 2nd interview with Paula Scatoloni about SSP, on the importance of the provider's embodied presence for co-regulation during the delivery of SSP. .scatoloni

I couldn't stop laughing during my interview with Terri Cole, who didn't have to call me out like that about High Functioning Codependency, the topic of her new book "Too Much"! But I'm glad she did. I can't wait to finish devouring the rest of the book, and for you to hear our conversation! Terri Cole, LCSW

Finally I'll bring you an interview with Pam Conboy and Dr. Leah Linder of Setas Seminary, about using psilocybin in ceremony and spiritual practice, both in micro and macro doses in Episode 486.

I'm having lots of fun recording all these new interviews, and many more are scheduled over the next couple of weeks!
