⭐ Feature Employee Friday ⭐

This Friday, we are shining a star on our Social Worker, Vicki. She has joined our long-time Social Worker, Heather, and they have been a great team! We asked Vicki to tell a little bit about herself and her journey to hospice. This is what she had to say!

"I'm Vicki Lynn DuBose. I was born and raised in Alabama. I spent the last 8 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but I missed my Sweet Home Alabama, so I moved back in June this year. I've been a social worker for 14 years, but I feel like my heart has been in it since I was 9. My mother and sister were certified nursing assistants at a local nursing home, and I was able to visit sometimes and see patients, so I started talking to every patient in every room to learn about them, read them scripture or other books, play music, pray, and give them support since most of the residents did not have family. I have been destined to be a social worker from a young age.

I thoroughly enjoy helping hospice patients by providing them with resources and supporting both patients and their families.

I wish most families knew that hospice focuses on comfort and quality care at the end of life. Most have stigmas that hospice will hasten death, but that is not true. We focus on dignity, comfort, and the patient's wishes. I have been very passionate, loving, and kind to all of our patients and families. They truly need that support from the day they were born, all the way until they meet their maker. I am honored and privileged to help everyone with their journey.

Although I have only been at Gentiva since July, I feel a strong sense of belonging here. I have never felt like this with any company. That is why Gentiva is like family to me."

It’s Fall, Y’all! 🍁

Today, our Volunteer Coordinator, Bailey, and her sweet volunteer, Brenda, had the pleasure of setting up a booth at one of our local nursing homes! They served a classic “dreamsicle” with vanilla ice cream & orange soda! They were told their Jack-o'-Lanterns were the talk of the nursing home! 🎃

⭐ Feature Employee Friday ⭐

This Friday, we are shining a star on one of our newer RN Case Managers, Ashley. She's been a nurse for 6 years and has been with Gentiva since May. She has been a true asset to our team, and we are so happy to have her!

We asked her why she felt hospice was her calling, and this is what she had to say:

"My favorite thing about being a nurse is knowing that God called me to be right where I am. Every time I tell someone I'm a hospice nurse, they respond with "Oh, that must be so hard. I couldn't do it." Of course, there are hard days, but this is the most rewarding job I've ever had. End of life is inevitable, but making sure that my patients are comfortable and my families are educated is something I'm passionate about and take pride in. The relationships I build with my patients and their families are among the ones I will forever cherish.

In 2023, I transitioned from hospice care to research nursing. I was comfortable and thought I would retire from there, but God had other plans. I searched for jobs in several different specialties, and none of them seemed to be a good fit. I left my interview at Gentiva and cried in my car because I knew I had found my people. I feel like I have a purpose, and I truly make a difference in people's lives each and every day."

⭐ Feature Employee Friday ⭐

This Friday we are shining a star on our Senior Patient Care Manager Greg! He has been a nurse for 29 years and been in Hospice for 25 of those years! We are so thankful to have him as a part of our team!

We asked him why he felt hospice was so important and this is what he said:

“Hospice is so important because of the team work that comes along with it, it’s not just a nurse, it’s a Home Health Aide, a Chaplain, a Social Worker, and even a volunteer. It’s a team that’s main goal is to take care of the patient and the family not just the patient. Being there at the end of life when people need you the most is one of the most rewarding careers.”

⭐ Feature Employee Friday ⭐

This Friday, we are featuring one of our RN Case Managers, Christy! Christy has been a nurse for 18 years and in the hospice world for a year and a half now! She is a vital part of our team here at Gentiva Hospice.

We asked her what her favorite thing about being a hospice nurse was, and this is what she had to say:

"I know that Gentiva Hospice is where I’m supposed to be. I never knew hospice was my calling until I chose to make the career change. It is truly the most rewarding job. The relationship I have with my patients and their families is untouched. As a nurse, I find a deep purpose in being able to provide comfort and support during the most vulnerable stage of life. Being a part of someone’s final chapter is a privilege I don’t take lightly."

This Friday, we are shining a star on Cheyenne, one of our amazing home health aides. She has been a CNA for 7 years and with our team at Gentiva for 2 years. We are so thankful to have her as a part of our 5 star team!

When asked why she chose Hospice this is what she had to say:

"Hospice gives me the best of both worlds, I get to do what I love and feel like I'm called to do, while also being present with families everyday. My favorite part about being a CNA is I've seen a lot of people alone or without family and being a CNA gives me the opportunity to be there for them in some of the most vulnerable times."

⭐Feature Employee Friday⭐

This Friday, we are featuring one of our RN Case Managers, Carla! Carla has been a nurse for 28 years. She began her nursing career in the ER and the recovery room. Almost two years ago, she stepped into the role of hospice nurse here at Gentiva and knew that was where she belonged!

We asked her what her favorite thing about being a hospice nurse was, and this is what she had to say.

"I have always loved nursing and helping people, but when I started working with Gentiva Hospice, I knew I was where I was supposed to be. I love my people! You build such close relationships with the patients and families. It is honestly an honor to be part of their journey. My patients and families bless me every day. I hope I can make a difference in their lives. They all deserve to be comfortable, respected, and cared for through their journey."

⭐ Feature Employee Friday ⭐

This Friday, we are shining the spotlight on Kaitlin, one of our sweet home health aides. She has been a CNA for 5 years and with Gentiva Hospice for a little over 6 months! Her smiling face and positive attitude are something we are so thankful to have on our team!

We asked her why she loves hospice?

"I absolutely love the heart-warming care, the dignity, and companionship I get to provide to each and every one of my patients. From holding their hands while they ease into their transition, wiping tears, or just simply being a listening ear for those who have become family to me, no day is like another. I've often thought that CNA work is a calling that I've always had, but being in hospice care is truly where my heart is."

🍦We all scream for ice cream!🍦

This week, Bailey, our volunteer coordinator, and Ms. Brenda, our sweet volunteer, spread the love with their ice cream cart around a few of our assisted living facilities! They had all the best toppings, and everyone had the best time building their own sundaes!
