I’m learning so much in my Ayurveda course and wanted to share this: Feeling overwhelmed about eating healthy? Start small. Small, consistent changes can add up to significant results over time. Unsure what to eat for breakfast? Begin with something familiar. It’s okay if your diet isn’t all organic or perfectly whole foods—what matters is starting now, even in small steps. Remember, determining what works best for your body can take around five years. Give yourself the freedom to experiment and grow into your healthiest self.

Feeling guilty about your food choices, but just can't get it right? Feel inspired, but don't know where to start? Too confused or overwhelmed to even try? Figuring out what to eat takes time. Fortunately, the discovery process can be fun and exciting.

Are you seeking a fresh perspective on health and wellness, one that emphasizes the vital role of spiritual well-being in physical, mental, and emotional health? My own spiritual journey has been full of twists and turns, but it has brought me to a deeper understanding of how interconnected these aspects of our lives truly are. From a biblical standpoint, the health of our physical bodies is of great significance, as it reflects God’s perfect creation. All of these areas—spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional—are intricately woven together, grounded in the four pillars of health: sleep, nutrition, energy management, and exercise. These pillars form the foundation for living a balanced and fulfilling life.

Mind-Body Yoga therapy sessions

Mind-Body Yoga Therapy Session
HOMEMIND-BODY YOGA THERAPY SESSION
Mind-Body Yoga Therapy is a comprehensive approach to holistic healing, integrating ancient yogic principles with contemporary therapeutic methods. By combining these age-old practices with modern techniques, we aim to deepen awareness and foster a heightened sense of presence, empowering individuals to embrace self-acceptance more fully. This enhanced self-awareness becomes a catalyst for change, growth, and overall well-being in the realms of body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

In a Mind-Body Yoga Therapy one-on-one session, practitioners guide clients through a transformative experience. This session involves assisted yoga postures and a client-centered, open-ended, and non-directive dialogue process. The focus is on facilitating the client’s exploration of their present moment, fostering a connection with their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspects. Whatever unfolds in this present moment becomes enriched by its relationship to the broader context of the client’s daily life— encompassing work, play, family, and relationships.

Although a series of sessions is often beneficial, profound transformation can also occur within a single session. Similarly, our themed Mind-Body Therapeutic Yoga Classes or 8-Week Group Series deliver impactful results. Our overarching mission is to guide individuals towards a life worth living—a purpose-driven and meaningful existence marked by reduced stress and anxiety, and enriched by fulfilling work and relationships.

Part 1 Four Pillars of Health & Harmony - The Ayurvedic Clock: Foundation for Health and Wellness

What does it mean to have vibrant health, live life with purpose, and have a deep sense of peace, contentment, and purpose? Ayurveda means knowledge of life, and it originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It is the oldest continuously practiced health care system in the world, coming from an understanding of nature’s rhythms and laws, working with the imbalances that show up as signs of dis-ease in the mind and body.

The foundation for Ayurveda is the 24-hour clock, where a proper lifestyle routine begins. In our current life, most of us divide the day into work, personal time, and sleep, with work frequently given the most significant amount of our time. Ayurveda sees the day differently, breaking it into six four-hour pieces, like a pie. One of the slices divides the 24 hour day into day and night. Then the days are divided into the morning 6 AM – 10 AM, middle of the day 10 AM – 2 PM, and the afternoon from 2 PM – 6 PM, after which the cycle begins again.

The Ayurvedic clock is the foundation of how these pieces contribute to balance or imbalance in sleep, digestion, emotional health, and overall wellness.

Whole-Hearted Living: Awareness, Judgement, Courage and Compassion Part 1

Learn to peel away the layers of misbelief, find your truth, make better choices, calm your emotions, find mental stillness, clarity and discover a spiritual connection.

The first step in personal transformation is awareness of the obstacles that need to be removed. The second step is to adjust habits and patterns that no longer serve us to thrive and live more connected to others, in our community, and our spiritual life.

Together we will explore the roots of happiness. It starts with our actions, and we will examine the qualities of life to find more ease and flow through love and forgiveness, courage and gratitude, compassion and truthfulness, dedication and commitment, patience and understanding, self-discipline and wisdom, and surrender.

Eat Your Biggest Meal at Lunch

Ayurveda believes that our digestive fire is at its strongest in the middle of the day. Eating our biggest meal at lunchtime gives our body plenty of time to digest before going to bed. In the evening, the digestive system shuts down and begins the cellular detoxification process.

Studies have also found that our digestive system secretes the highest concentration of digestive juices around noon. If we eat a heavy meal in the evening, it can affect our sleep, weight management, and often in the morning, we will wake up feeling full and sluggish.

Prepare a meal the night before if you can’t cook a healthy and satisfying meal at noon.

Noticing Patterns and Saying “I Forgive You”

For me, forgiveness and compassion are always linked: how do we hold people accountable for wrongdoing and yet at the same time remain in touch with their humanity enough to believe in their capacity to be transformed? ~Bell Hooks

Bring your attention to someone you care about, maybe a close friend or a partner, and imagine them making a perceived mishap or a misstatement. Pay close attention to what happens as your thoughts and feelings appear and then develop around this encounter.

What is your reaction? How do you show that you understand they are perfectly imperfect without criticizing them or shutting them out? Are you able to learn from the situation? Can you see how your thoughts ignite your emotions and create a more significant problem? What do you gain from holding on to these reactions? Do you continue through the same reactive patterns, or can you sit back and reflect on the scenario?

Those are the questions I asked myself after a recent misunderstanding where I know I did not display the best version of myself.

A friend and I were out to dinner with a couple of his acquaintances. We enjoyed our meal and some light banter around the table. One of the remarks that my friend said to me hurt, and I took it to heart. My emotions immediately shut down and it felt like I built a wall to hide behind until I could express my feelings. I was unable to articulate how I felt because there were others around us, and it didn’t seem appropriate at the time. My delay was not out of a lack of respect for him but to protect myself from becoming even angrier and acting out.

Later that evening, I communicated my hurt. I also did a self-evaluation with another trusted friend who guided me without judgment or validation as I told my story. In turn, I could see a broader perspective of his side of the story.

I was feeling detached from my friend, who had completely shut down and stopped communicating with me. I shared my observation of my actions and that I understood how he was feeling. I felt that I had done the right thing by expressing my feelings, but I still felt shut out. I didn’t understand what I had missed.

A few days later, he expressed some of the challenges with the progression of events that evening. After openly discussing this with him, I understood my reaction to his initial comment created a chain of events based on our past experiences. I told him that I had already forgiven him for what he said, but I was struggling with the dismissive behavior. He shared that he needed to hear the words “I forgive you” because his past experiences with silent treatment led to passive-aggressive behavior. In my mind, that explained our earlier discussion. I know now that I need to be more specific with my words.

In this situation, both of us chose to guard ourselves against being hurt and brought our experiences with dysfunctional interpersonal relationships into the current situation.

I am so grateful for the level of communication I have with many of my friends. Sometimes there are slight hiccups, but most of the time, we return to the fact that we are all perfectly imperfect and are doing our best to build deep, meaningful relationships.

Your words’ power, thoughtful communication, and open perception create a strong bond with the important people in your life. There are multiple sides to every story, and it often has less to do with you and more to do with another’s past experiences.

Lastly, if you forgive someone, tell them.

Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

~ Saint Augustine

Be present: Be the Mountain.

"Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." Alice Morse Earle

Among the most potent practices of mindfulness is seated meditation. You are just sitting with nothing more. The simplicity of "nothing" is your goal; you experience a more profound practice that magnifies your tendencies to want to move. Often your mind will be active with thoughts and images that get swept away by emotions and stories. Your job is not to get rid of your thoughts but to come back to the present moment. The practice of bringing your mind back to the present moment is where you will gain the "mental muscles" to have clarity and focus during your day.

The Practice...
~Set a timer for 5 min.
~Find a comfortable seated position and try to keep your body as still as possible.
~Notice your breath and be with yourself in stillness.

Doing this may seem impossible at first, but the more you move, the more you will want to move. Stillness requires working through agitation, discomfort, and even pain. You will learn a lot about yourself by doing this. Sometimes, physical discomfort can be a rather powerful insight into your tolerance and relationship with being uncomfortable. You will see how you're wiggling around during your meditation practice relates to your need to move away from the stillness in your life.

Be still like a mountain. Be the mountain.
