More impact, less irritation 🙌

If you’ve ever had a retinoid reaction, you’ll know it’s not fun. You’re using a product in an effort to improve your skin, only to find out your skin hates it (at least initially).

The good news is, there’s a better way. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A offering a wide variety of benefits for the skin, but not all vitamin A products are created equal!

Our recommendation is always to start first with an Environ moisturizer, all of which contain a form of Vitamin A known as Retinyl Esthers. This form of vitamin A is much better tolerated by the skin, allowing the skin to build up Vitamin A receptors and prevent reactions as you increase your “dose”. These moisturizers have multiple levels and, once you advance a couple of levels, you can safely add Retinol into the mix gradually to boost your results.

Why a “good deal” on Botox may not be a good idea…

Aside from the fact that the three individuals listed in the CDC’s recent article performed their own injections, which is obviously not a safe option, the biggest concern on our end is the product they were injecting.

There are only a handful of Botulinum Toxin brands on the market that are FDA approved for cosmetic use: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Daxxify and Letybo. There are no “generics” and these brands will only sell to licensed medial providers who meet educational requirements.

Any other brand, or any of the above listed brand’s products purchased via third party retailer, or overseas, pose the risk of the product being expired, tampered with, improperly stored, or something completely different altogether.

Many businesses offering aesthetic injections flaunt big discounts to consumers. Speaking as a medical spa owner who regularly purchases brand name Botox, some of these discounts cannot possibly be profitable and could potentially be in the negative *unless* the product was not purchased directly from the manufacturer.

To be fair, many businesses offering significant discounts on Botulinum Toxin injections are intentionally taking a hit on their profit either to earn more via increased volume and future bookings. But for some, the steep discounts may point to less than reputable botulinum toxins being used. As a consumer, it is not easy to distinguish between the two. Even if your injector shows you the bottle, there is no guarantee that the product was purchased directly from the manufacturer and stored properly in transit.

As a consumer, your safest bet is to avoid businesses offering heavy or frequent discounts and to always look for providers with the skill, experience and medical knowledge to safely and effectively perform your treatment.

This report describes the public health response to three patients from different states who developed severe illness after self-injecting botulinum toxin.

A staple in my nighttime routine 🍞

Pre-cleanser is a critical step in removing impurities and ensuring your skin is truly clean before you apply moisturizers , ensuring your skin is properly prepped and your finishing products are as effective as possible. Pre-cleanser can be used as often as nightly and is most important days when you are wearing makeup sunscreen, or spend time outdoors in a polluted environment.

The Environ Clay Masque is a simple, yet highly effective product that can be used three different ways. It can be placed directly on top of your pre-cleanser to form a paste that clears impurities even more effectively and gently exfoliates. This can be done 2 to 3 times a week.

The Clay Masque can also be used as a mask (obviously 🙃) After and toning, apply the clay mask and leave on for 10 minutes. Remove and apply. You’re serums moisturizer. This can be done 2 to 3 times per week and is a great way to draw more moisture into the skin thanks to the lactic acid found in the product.

If you’ve been using Environ’s Clay Masque for a while and you’re confident there’s no irritation (there typically isn’t), you can also use this as an overnight mask. After completing your entire evening skin care routine, apply the clay mask on top. It will deeply hydrate your skin and lock in the products underneath, increasing their absorption and efficacy. 📈
