Oh, there are a few!

Did you reach down and touch your baby's head when they were being born. SUCH an incredible moment.

09/29/2021

I breastfed my baby everywhere since day 1.

Every time I did it in public I knew I was making a change for mothers and parents of the future.

When we see something it becomes normalized.

When we see breastfeeding or body feeding we also learn how it’s done.

Did you feed your baby in public? Have you seen others feeding in public?

Yes
09/29/2021

Yes

Traditional discipline methods only deal with the surface behaviour....this is why popular ‘quick fix’ parenting techniques involving punishments, praise, ignoring behaviour and rewards/bribes are so ineffective! (And potentially damaging).

To change the behaviour you must work with the root cause....and the only way to do that is to work collaboratively with the child, to identify and solve problems together.

This is why I always focus on the causes of the behaviour, not just reacting to the behaviour itself.

“Just as rain doesn’t create drought, feasts don’t create hunger, and generosity doesn’t create poverty, meeting a child’s needs for attachment, attention, and affection in childhood doesn’t create needy adults.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just the opposite, in fact.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A child whose emotional needs are nourished tends to grow into an emotionally healthy adult in the same way a child whose physical needs are nourished tends to grow into a physically healthy adult.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is unmet needs that create need, not met needs.”

We support everyone who gives birth, which includes advocating for gender inclusive language in maternal health legislation. Gender neutral terms in policy, whenever possible, helps work towards a future where everyone interacting with the maternity care system receives the quality, respectful and equitable care they deserve.⁣

A couple stats to consider:⁣

About 5.6% of U.S. adults identify as , and 0.6% identify specifically as , according to a Gallup poll released in February. Among Generation Z adults – those 18 to 23 – nearly 16% identify as LGBTQ, and about 2% identify as transgender.⁣

Black Breastfeeding Week brings attention to wide racial disparities in breastfeeding rates and works to address structural barriers and injustices underlying these disparities, including a lack of representation in the lactation support community. Right now, the most recent CDC data show that 75% of white women have ever breastfed versus 58.9% of Black women.⁣

As we mark this important week, we welcome the Black community to tap into for free, virtual support via groups, classes, and messaging. ⁣

We co-founded JustBirth Space last summer with Ancient Song Doula Services, Village Birth International and Jacaranda Health to provide a space for and postpartum people to access nonjudgmental, compassionate and inclusive support. We believe support throughout the entire reproductive lifespan should be just and equitable to address the impact of structural racism that harms Black birthing people and their ability to navigate pregnancy, nourish their newborns, and raise their children safely. ⁣

What is your favorite way to show your child you love them?

💫What is your favourite way to show your child you love them??💫

For me, it’s quality time. Reading a book with the girls, going for a walk, or simply just being with them. Sometimes while we are doing this, I’ll slip in words, “you know I’ll always love you; spending time with you is my favourite.” I see a slight smile on my oldest face, sometimes followed by a “Moooooom, I knowwww.”

🥰There’s something so powerful about a reminder of unconditional love and delight in your child.⠀⠀

Above is a simple phrase that I know many of you didn’t hear, or if you did hear this it didn’t feel true to you.

💫Saying “I love you” and showing love to our kids can be reparenting work.💫

Unconditional love says that no matter how you behave or how I may disagree with what you are doing, I will always love you!

Unconditional love, responsibility, trust, and safety are the four pillars of parenting we focus on here at OMV.

Share below… what do you like to do with your children to help them see your love? It can be so simple! I’d love to hear!
