We are proud and thankful that our Executive Director Dorothy McKinnon was invited to contribute to a study on the impact of the 988 Crisis Line across Oklahoma, especially the important role that crisis services do to save the lives of Oklahomans.

Thank you to State Representatives Gise, Norwood, Pae and Turner for hosting the study on this important, life-saving topic. And thank you to our partners at the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Healthy Minds Policy Initiative, the United Way and Solari Crisis Services for their contributions.

Congratulations to all our wonderful staff. We are now officially a Sanctuary Certified Trauma Informed Facility. This means we handle every situation, whether involving staff, clients, community, or organizations through a trauma lens. Our aim is to prevent and be prepared when trauma and stress become overwhelming. https://www.thesanctuaryinstitute.org/elite-organizers/certified-sites/

Stole from a sister agency.

March is Women’s History Month.

Let’s start with honoring this remarkable woman, Malala Yousafzai

As a young girl of 11, the Pakistani student wrote an anonymous diary about what life was like under the rule of an extreme group called the Taliban in north-west Pakistan.

In the diary, she talked about how she wanted to stay in education and about how girls should be able to go to school. The Taliban wanted to ban girls' education. People world wide read the diary and she became well-known for fighting for her right to an education.

Because of what she wrote in her diary, in October 2012, she was shot by Taliban soldiers - but she survived the attack.

The world was appalled by what happened to her and Malala quickly won the support of millions more people.

At 17, she became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

She has gone on to write books, graduate from university and continues to campaign for girls' rights all over the world and inspire many generations
