Severe period pain is not something you should have to live with. Yet too many women endure it for years before receiving answers.

This BBC story highlights the experience of Reah Steer, who suffered for two decades before being diagnosed with endometriosis. The condition, which affects 1 in 10 women, can cause intense pelvic pain and make it difficult to get pregnant. For Reah, it meant years of frustration before finally turning to IVF.

Her message is clear: we need better education, starting in schools, so young people know that debilitating period pain is not normal. Women also deserve to be heard, not dismissed with prescriptions that mask symptoms instead of treating the cause.

Reah Steer was prescribed the contraceptive pill, which only disguised her endometriosis.

Your pelvic floor does more than most people realize. These muscles support your bladder, bowels and reproductive organs. They also help with breathing, movement and s*xual function.

When the pelvic floor is not working properly, it can cause leakage, constipation, painful s*x or pelvic pain. Many people assume these problems are simply part of aging or childbirth, but that is not true. You do not need to accept them as normal or live in silence.

There are effective ways to strengthen, relax and restore your pelvic floor at every stage of life. With the right guidance, you can improve comfort, function and overall quality of life.

Many women live with pelvic organ prolapse without realizing what’s happening—or without feeling comfortable talking about it. In fact, research from VCU Health shows that nearly half of all women will experience it in their lifetime.

Prolapse can cause a sense of heaviness, bladder urgency, or difficulty with bowel movements. It can affect daily life in ways that are frustrating and sometimes isolating.

The important thing to know: you are not alone, and there are safe, effective treatments that can help. From non-surgical options to minimally invasive surgery, women are finding relief and getting back to living the lives they love.

If you are a female who has had a va**nal birth, been through menopause or experienced chronic constipation, there is a roughly 50% chance that the organs in your pelvic region are beginning to descend into or entirely come out of your va**na.

Chronic pelvic pain isn’t just physical. Research shows the brain and body work together in ways that can intensify symptoms, creating cycles of stress, tension, and increased pain. For many, the most isolating aspect is not the condition itself, but feeling unheard or misunderstood.

Cleveland Clinic specialists emphasize a whole-person approach. Evidence-based therapies like CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, s*x therapy, and even hypnosis are combined with medical care to help patients regain function and confidence. Addressing trauma, stress, and emotional well-being is key to breaking the cycle.

This feature explains how psychological support is becoming an essential part of treatment for chronic pelvic pain—and why acknowledging the mind-body connection is critical for healing:

Gut-brain research has helped to develop a model in which psychologists can be part of a team treating patients with chronic pelvic pain.

If you are considering Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS), pelvic therapy is recommended both prior to (if possible) and following all top and bottom surgeries. Your surgeon will likely give you instructions for what to do at home to assist with your healing, but most patients benefit from the guidance and supervision from a pelvic therapist to successfully follow a rehabilitation protocol.

Vaginismus is a condition many women silently live with, yet few have words for. It causes involuntary tightening of the va**nal muscles, making s*x, exams, or even tampon use painful. Experts estimate up to 17% of Indian women may experience it, but stigma and lack of s*x education keep conversations buried.

The Harper’s Bazaar feature explores how vaginismus is shaped by both body and mind. Trauma, anxiety, and cultural conditioning often intertwine with physical symptoms, leaving women feeling isolated or ashamed. Therapy, pelvic floor treatment, and supportive partners can help, but awareness must come first.

If painful intimacy or exams feel familiar, this story offers both validation and direction. Learn why education, empathy, and open dialogue are long overdue: https://www.harpersbazaar.in/beauty/story/its-not-just-in-your-head-1249670-2025-07-27

Bindi Irwin has shared that after 13 years of endometriosis pain, she is finally finding healing. Her candid update describes the toll of years spent feeling dismissed and ashamed, only to discover she had dozens of lesions and required surgery for relief. Her openness brings visibility to a condition that affects one in ten women worldwide.

Endometriosis can cause severe pain, infertility, fatigue, and emotional strain. Yet many are told their symptoms are “just part of being a woman,” delaying diagnosis and care for years. Irwin’s story highlights the urgent need to remove stigma and foster open conversations around women’s health.

This BBC feature explores her journey and the larger call for global awareness and change: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c209dz1yd22o
